Is anyone aware of which machines are using a RAM output buffer on the digital out portion of the machine? I understand that the Music Hall Maverick does, and so did a older universal Marantz player did.Just recently obtained a Audio Magic Kukama DAC. Always loved the sound of this piece, and just looking to obtain a respectable transport for it. I am using a Phillips DVP-642 at the moment. Had an interesting experience with it.
Used a new Benchmark USB DAC and computer hard drive to play audio. Made a direct comparison to the Phillips DVD player. They sounded exactly the same. Some moments I thought one would sound slightly different, but I wouldnt swear to it. If I were ina DBX test, I woudlnt be able to tell the difference between the two units. Quite enlightening. I would expect a RAM buffered DVD or CD player to be just as good. Why not use the computer then? Well the Audio Magic has only co-ax in. However, it destroys the Benchmark piece in every way possible. Personaly, I think it's one of the hidden gems in hi fi.

Hey there Kuma.Already got the DAC I want in place. An Audio Magic Kukama. Had heard that there were some new CDP/Transport/DVD players that are using a RAM output buffer.
sorry dude, didn't read your post all the way through. :\
Hey there kuma.No I sold the Teres awhile back. Only played about 15% of my record collection regularly, and it took up so much room. Decided to simplify, although there are some days I think it was a mistake.
I like the Audio Magic DAC alot. I had one in the house earlier in the year. Changed my perspective on CD playback. So I broke down and bought one. Gives me a true high quality front end, even with a modest transport.
So what have you been up to these days>
As you've moved away from the record player ( I can certainly see the need if it doesn't get much use ), I've got back into it 2 years ago.
Now I use it more than a CD player.Anyways, good luck with a transport search. It's harder to find a good one at a reasonable cost as many manufactures stop making a stand-alone transport as it is getting difficult to source transports.
Wel there are days I regret leaving vinyl. The Teres/Eminent Technology II/Dynavector 17D2 was the best tunrtable combo I owned. Beautiful sounding. But I wanted to simply my audio hobby(like thats possible).Eventually I may go to the used market and find a Theta. I have a speaker project in the works, so I need to get that out of the way. The guys at Cain&CAin/Lovecraft designs are building me a set of cabinets for the Audio Nirvana Super 12 driver. It's kind of amazing to see a 12 inch full range driver. Like a titan Fostex.
