I just dont understand why the discounted subscription rates should be so low. Stereophile should raise the rates. The readers spend an average of 20k for their systems I am told. They can easily afford to pay couple of bucks more per issue than the present subscription price of that very good magazine.
Cheers

...subscriptions make up a very small percentage of the publication's income. As one poster pointed out, advertising revenue is what keeps things afloat, and advertising rates are based on circulation. So it makes sense to boost circulation by keeping subscription fees low. Some of us who have been reading TAS and Stereophile since the early days may have been weened on publications with lots of editorial content and very little (or zero, in the case of early TAS) advertising and therefore get disoriented by today's business model as it relates to these publications.
I would have no problem paying $15-20 a yr for a subscription. I enjoy the ads as much as the reviews. Lets see what I started!!
