I have lots of Beethoven and purchased the Ninth long ago as a "gotta have", but honestly it just doesn't do anything for me. Before responding, I listened through it again just to make sure. I appreciate the fact that the libretto is about joy and creation, but the vocal part just reminds me of watching Die Hard and trying to emulate singing in German - which is an easy way to get my wife to laugh.
I'm breaking in new panels for my stats which have wonderful first octave response. The organ pedal that closes Saturn and fills the room with its presence just melts me. There's some tasty "C" pedal stuff in the soundtrack to Interstellar as well.
To each his own!

:)Let's review...
Are you tellin' me that the "vor Gott" section doesn't evoke an almost spiritual emotional response in you? 'Cause if so, you are one cold dude (kidding!) or you need new speakers - lol. I listen to that movement from the "landing" on our stairway, which, btw, is the sweetist spot for my system.
I have 3 or 4 recordings of the Ninth, and I'd have to listen to them again to decide which one I like the most, but the CSO with Sir Georg Solti comes to mind as being an excellent performance. That could partially be because I'm a big fan of Solti, Adolph Herseth (trumpet), and "the Chicago sound"). Actually, I read Solti's book "Memoirs" in about two days - fascinating life.
About The Planets. This is my kind of orchestral music (well, one of them). I love the whole piece. Which movement is it that has the almost ghostly female singers doing the "ahhhhh" thingy? - Uranus or Neptune? That's very cool.

Apparently, not. The Sound Lab U-1PX does a fine job with everything I enjoy. Must be me. :)

Mine is this Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt/Vienna version on LP I've had for what - forty years(?) following a mentor's rec.

That would be Neptune, the Mystic .
Back in '76 when the audio shop where I worked picked up Acoustat, our first customer was a cardiologist who loved The Planets . He brought a collection of vinyl to audition but what stood out was his reaction to playing Jupiter on them. Dr. Woodfin Cobb's enthusiasm was infectious to this nineteen year old. Immediately, I purchased my first copy. :)

May just be me, but if I am not attracted to the music , I don't listen to it.

I kinda like parts of the Fourth and the Sixth and the second movement of the Ninth, aka former theme to NBC Nightly News, but Ludwig gets sparse airplay at Chez Stat.
Sorry, Schroeder. :)
Well, he WAS deaf, so not having to listen to the German language
anymore may have been inspiration for the title.
Lord knows that's the downfall of a beautiful piece.
