a thread nitpicking, bad mouthing or otherwise bitching about Stereophile.
I suppose the most recent edition hasn't arrived yet?
Isn't THAT something to complain about?
You guys are slipping.

Musetap:I'll bite.First post although I joined quite a while ago to bitch about something Fremer wrote (didn't follow up) and I've read AA daily for at least ten years. And I've enjoyed it. My foul mood started earlier when I tried to talk to a customer service rep from Ebay who spoke some unknown language. Then the mail came. Mostly junk mail including Stereophile. I opened it up and the table of contents listed only four reviews! One was of am amp I never heard of, written by a guy I've never heard of that apparently uses a shipping container (12x10x12H) as a listening room. Incidentally the importer was Tone Imports that gets more space in the rag than Sam gave Music Fidelity. And the Atkinson repeats his mantra of I am not a crook. Another thing, no AD Listening column this month. It must be so because it's not listed in the table of contents. Art was my favorite writer until he lost his sense of humor a few years back. I miss Sam Tellig a lot too and I enjoy some of Dr. Rubinson's work. Hell, I even miss Marks. Well his writing. Now we have one phony hipster (guess) who replaced another. And Herb. I used to like Stereophile better than The Absolute Sound, mostly because of its personality. But give me Absolute Sound now anyday. I thought it was about reviewing lots of equipment to play our music (the emphasis is on our-not cloud crap or invisible files) I'm 69, love the Lamm/Nola/SME playing a $1.98 Beach Boys mono LP in the background and tiring of JA's corporate line. To me it's who will go first. JA or the rag. I know, I belong in Jurassic Park. Till we meet again.
Now that you've waded in don't be a stranger!

4 full reviews, with measurements, yes. But there are 7 other products
reported on in our regular columns, and I think it fair to point out that
that coverage would have been listed as "reviews" in other magazines that
don't include measurements. YMMV, of course.> One was of an amp I never heard of, written by a guy I've never heard of...

In what article? Are you sure you are not imagining things.
> no AD Listening column this month. It must be so because it's not listed
> in the table of contents.Listening is there on p.29. Both Art and I missed its omission on the
contents page in the proofing. So it goes. But thanks for your comments.

Good for you! My last issue of Stereophile just arrived. I wont be renewing. Lets see if you get crucified by the "fanboys" for this post.
Are you going to force yourself to read your last issue of Stereophile or have you already tossed it in the trash? :-)
He's a martyr and it WILL be buried with him!!!

....and go back to the days before the internet? If I wanted non-stop bickering I would have stayed married. I may have to join the mass exodus out of critic's corner.
Although JA would no doubt disagree, the audio world doesn't revolve around Stereophile. Give a few of the other fine publications a chance to be slammed.
Only way that would happen hear is if JA stopped posting.
IMO a huge reason many people hang and post here is due to
his presence - and perseverance!
Remove him from the equation and a fair percentage of folk
that post here (and seldom elsewhere on AA) and traffic starts
drying up.
Someone from another publication shows up to interact and we
end up with Groundhog Day.

Exit from Critic's Corner? Seriously? This is where all the fun is! LOL
Yeah, there are some goofy complaints, some legitimate complaints, and not much praise. But, hey, that's part of being a writer or an editor in any field.
Personally, I haven't subscribed to a hi-fi magazine or e-zine in decades. I think the last time I read a hi-fi mag was back in the daze of Audio and Stereo Review, and early TAS. These days, I get Live Sound International and Pro Audio Review. I'll very rarely browse an issue of Home Theater or such at the bookstore.
John Atkinson, Kal, and a few others deserve some credit for having a tough enough skin to play in this game, and for contributing to this forum.
:)
I always wondered why Stereophile did not hire you. I think your writing style would fit right in.
Heck, I always wondered why they never hired any female writers, to the best of my recollection. The Absolute Sound has had numerous female contributors. Shame.
...Myles Astor's first wife, Lisa, writing a monthly column in Stereophile about being married to an audiophile.
Regardless if sitting or standing Myles was Always on tweeter axis.. great reviewer :)

Teenager Julia Dudley wrote a side - bar to one of her father Art's reviews a few years ago. The kid did a good job too.
Was she the one who suggested using teddy bears as an acoustical treatment?
I've seen worse acoustic treatments...........In my listening room.
The heavy bag does work well in the corner though.

They seem to have shrunk. Best to throw them away and replace with new vinyl.
Ha Ha; I have more vinyl than I can listen to, and definitely more than I want to clean.
Those things pictured used to collect dust (there are actually two more racks like it) until my son started taking them to his room. It seems that he likes a lot of classic rock and country - kinda puzzling since he's just 12.
He's been on a Bad Company/Rush kick for a while, and he cannot understand why his buddies don't dig that stuff. So, it looks as though the audiophile gene didn't skip a generation or two in this case.
He has a slammin little system; Adcom amp and preamp, Pioneer (Andrew Jones) speakers, SVS SB-1000 sub, and a Playstation for source. He's working out a deal with my brother to trade some slave labor (mowing, raking, stacking firewood) for a pair of Paradigm studio reference 40 v3.
Recently, he was caught screwing around with my turntable and a Japanese pressing of Rush's Moving Pictures, I started to get pissed but then realized that in all likelihood he possesses far steadier hands than his Dad. There are worse things than telling your kid, "go flip it over" at the end of side one.

...who turned out to be deaf lol
I always enjoyed Lisa's columns. She's definitely a much better writer than I am. Maybe I should hire her to write my reviews :-)
...maybe Myles edited her column :)
I was unaware of that..but...who?
by far and away the best audio mag in the US (maybe the best anywhere in English?). Thanks JA and crew. You are appreciated by at least a few around here.

You're welcome, Beetlemania. I have always believed that a magazine is
only as good as its most recent issue, so the pressure doesn't let up.

Speaking of , another technical slam in SP current issue will surely bring the dogs out ...
Probably admired and read by a lot of folks around here. I know i enjoy it. Great audio mag!
That's the vast majority of what goes on here. JA is a trooper and seems to answer them all politely, sometimes with a few replies per thread. I asked how many more hours a week that added to his workload.

"Isn't THAT something to complain about?"
...apparently you've given this some thought and have nothing good to say. ;^)

I suppose by your measure, that's really not progress. If you're going to be judgmental, be forthright and honest, preferably within the offending threads.
I'll start to do that as soon as you can locate your sense of humour.
Or develop one.
Whichever comes first.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
It's at least as good as your use of pointless criticism. Who would know better? :^)
These folks should complain by not resubscribing or buying at the newsstand.

What this place needs is a religion and politics forum - then it will be 24/7 bitching and complaining. :)
Yeah, thats what we need in a democracy, not totalitarian tendencies as in Mainland China. Cheap labor is good for audio though.

Maybe that's why women aren't interested in audio.
Aw, c'mon now, who wouldn't want a piece of this action? He is shockingly single and ready to mingle.
And I was accused of getting into audio just to meet men.
