"Well I am still trying to figure out how your 4th paragraph is more elitist than my full-scale condemnation of The Eagles but I will work this out soon."
Ever notice that if you prefer classical to rock you're "elitist" but if you prefer rock to country you're "cool"?
What's missing in this thread is Mr. Frey's admission that his health problems were largely self-inflicted. Last year he acknowledged that his obsession with "beer, burgers, broads, and blow" had led to his undoing.
"I think that you and John Marks would get along famously."
We always have.
Follow Ups:
...sounds like someone is jealous of the rock star.
Frey had rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune disease.
They were being treated with a drug that lowered his immunity and he contracted pneumonia which was his cause of death.
From the linked article: But the band, in a statement released Wednesday, said that Frey, 66, has had a recurrence of "previous intestinal issues, which will require major surgery and a lengthy recovery period."
Those issues date back to the 1980s, when Frey spoke about the damage he believed he had done to his body during the band's heyday, when drugs and alcohol flowed freely. In 1988, he told the Detroit Free Press he had been hospitalized with diverticulitis at one point.
"It's from burgers and beer and blow and broads — all the bad stuff I'd been doing to myself," said Frey, who famously became an exercise enthusiast after the band first broke up in the early '80s.
...doesn't matter what Frey said, he isn't a medical professional.
Diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis and not caused by lifestyle.
My father-in-law had diverticulitis and my business colleague has it requiring surgery 2 years ago.
I have had ulcerative colitis for nearly 20 years so I know of what I speak.
Frey had had ulcerative colitis for 15 years and a recent flare-up was going to require surgery to remove his colon.
Both rheumatiod arthritis and ulcerative colitis are treated with TNF drugs like Humira, which compromise your immunity to infection.
He died from pneumonia, probably acquired in the hospital.
I know for a fact that illicit drugs - of which Frey admits to ingesting in copious amounts - do not undergo clinical trials in order to test for safety. God only knows what contaminants one is exposed to (or the long-term harmful effects that arise) when doing drugs for extended periods as Frey did. We do know what it did to David Crosby's liver.
"He died from pneumonia..."
And medical researchers have linked chronic boozing to pneumonia.
"Heavy drinking suppresses the immune system, providing a toehold for infections, including tuberculosis, pneumonia…"
It's no secret that many celebrities who were alcoholics or former alcoholics have succumbed to complications from pneumonia. Frey attributed his problems to abusing drugs and alcohol. I believe him while you appear to be in denial.
