From the Stereophile article that John Atkinson linked to, scroll down to the comments section.JRT summed it up best in his comments which pretty much mirror my own here on the Asylum.
IMHO, the promise of Class D should be quality sound at reduced prices. There should be no need for $10K - $15k Class D amps. But so long as manufacturers can stuff OEM modules into pretty megabuck chassis work and audiophiles are willing to pay, well more power to 'em I guess. But they won't be getting my money!

This quote pretty much sums it up:"The Parasound Halo JC1 sells for less than $5K.
Bel Canto chose a $15K MSRP price point for this MPS1, and by doing
that they have failed to deliver the real progress that Putzeys' NCore
could and should provide."Progress... should... could... FAILED - kicked aside by one company that has every right
to pursue it's MSRP despite how absurd or ill advised it may seem. But that Bel Canto equipment LOOKS mighty sharp!
But then that's the same argument that's been going on in many areas of
this hobby for years now, ESPECIALLY cables, where the cost of materials
for a 1m $100 PC certainly doesn't seem that much different from that
of a 1m $3,000 PC, but the packaging, presentation, and MARKETING
does.At a pretty obvious level, this hobby has become all about the marketing,
no matter the specs.

Only part of the hobby is affected, those of us who DIY / rebuild classics are doing just fine.

Absolutely about the marketing. You have to step back as any sane person would, and ask yourself if performance is always proportional to price, or are we paying for audio jewelry and prestige.
I have rarely ever seen an audio product review where the lower priced item is ranked to be better overall compared to the higher priced item. This is a consistent theme with all audio rags and has been for decades.
