After being automatically charged for 3 year subscription without my consent and two full months before my subscription ran out, I had to ring to cancel the unauthorized $77.97.
The operator would not give me a refund number or any such number for the refund. The best I could get was his so called name and employee number.
16 days later, absolutely no credit on my account.
John Atkinson - this behaviour from Stereophile is disgusting and has really turned me off your magazine.
It is not the money, it is the abhorrent customer service given to a decade+ subscriber.
I guess I now have to phone again international rates to see where my credit is.

It is now a week since you posted this rant, yet you never contacted me as
requested in order for me to try to help you.
So, did you get your refund? If so, why didn't you let me know? And if you
didn't receive your refund, why did you not contact me?

Got your email. Thanks.

You're welcome.

It appears that as a result of my intervention, Shane from AUS was
contacted by the company that handles subscriptions to Stereophile
and a refund has been arranged. So all's well that ends well.

Thanks John
They said they had cancelled my subscription but forgot to credit my credit card. they are now processing the credit which will take another 1-2 months.
Another reason why you should be able to email regarding subscriptions.
I had thanked you on a different thread, but the mods decided to delete?
I'm in the restaurant biz and from years of experience I can tell you that some people don't want to resolve the problem, they just want to bitch.
The whole problem with the world is that the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

you are doing a great job of bitching yourself
What a restaurant has to do with Stereophile subscriptions I have no idea, except perhaps the desire to hear your own voice.

That is just sad.

I NEVER would give a company selling magazine subscriptions my CC number.
(Remember Sterophile is NOT who you gave your card number to. You gave your card number to some fly by night magazine pusher.
> You gave your card number to some fly by night magazine pusher.
No, he gave it to Palm Coast Data, one of the largest subscription
fulfillment companies in the US. (See link below.)

Same thing.

First, my apologies for not responding yesterday. Email is always the
most efficient means of reaching me, especially at the weekend:
JAtkinson At enthusiastnetwork.com.
Second, I assume you know that you didn't receive the credit because you
called the card company. Is that correct? If you wait for the refund to
appear on your mailed statement, that won't be for up to 6 weeks, even
if you were credited in a timely manner.

Understood.

If you email me the name and address and if possible the subscription
number on the front of your issues, I will contact the company that
handles our subscriptions on Monday and find out what the status of
your subscription is.

was upset enough by the problem with his subscription to post multiple
times to the Asylum, using words like "scam," "fraud," "unethical,"
"disgusting," and "corrupt," and he summed up the situation thusly:> > If the editor of the magazine has zero control or influence over
> > Stereophile corrupt subscription practices, I guess nobody gives a shit.Well, I _do_ give a shit and offered my help. Perhaps Shane has been
away from his computer for the past 4 days? Or perhaps he has decided
to let the matter rest.Whatever the reason, this is now the third time that I have offered to
help a Stereophile subscriber who is apparently outraged enough to post
to this forum, only then to be ignored. A paradox.

Shane from AUS, aka fmak.
John, did all 3 of them fail to contact you?
> John, did all 3 of them fail to contact you?
That's correct. Same scenario with the earlier two subscribers as with
Shane from AUS: public complaints about poor customer service but when
I asked them to email me with their subscriber information (without
which I can't help) I heard nothing more.
I would like to think that their problems had been resolved without my
getting involved.

Or sadly... Maybe he was just a moron like many here who love to abuse others honesty and decency.

I find it hard to believe Shane was a troll. He appeared to have a genuine
problem concerning the cancellation of his Stereophile subscription.
John Atkinson
Editor, Stereophile
Hi John,
Yes maybe not a total troll, his problem was genuine. He was charged early for a subscription he felt he no longer wanted. Oh my!!!
Was it really that serious, and the ensuing BS... Sounded like you took someones first born. No company wants someone's money and will always process a refund. Might take a bit longer for a large entity and being international, but still... If that is the worst in life one has to worry about... they are very lucky...

Bob
I've heard through the grapevine that he was so distraught over the loss of his money that he "offed" himself. He needed that money to buy medicine for his sick mother and as a result of not getting it she died. When that happened he lost his inheritance from a remote relative who made his taking care of her the condition for being the primary heir to a vast fortune. Upon realizing his loss he went down to the local pub where he tried to drown his sorrows in pint after pint of Fosters. Then he went to the beach, tore off his clothes and swam out to sea. Some speculate he drowned. Some speculate he was eaten by a shark. Some speculate he landed on an uninhabited island where he had nothing but sand crabs and coconuts to live on. But whatever the true details of his sorry end, there is one person to blame for it and that's JA. :-)
not able to get to a web site for a few days and this.
I am truly amazed with the absolute vile coming from your mouth. Your mother and children (if you have any) would be truly proud of you.
I don't think so.
I am choosing DiCapio for the lead role. He will be saved from the island by FedEx people and taken to JA. Of course JA will act as himself.
Cheers
Bill
LOL
Maybe he was really Keyser Soze...
I heard he got mired down in the stale and outdated recommended components list , he was last seen in the "B" section ....

Shouldn't be a problem.

.
you need to call your CCC and have the charge reversed.
The whole subscription game is an embedded sham; don't let them screw you!
Want to read Stereophile? Better to do so on line.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
If the editor of the magazine has zero control or influence over Stereophile corrupt subscription practices, I guess nobody gives a shit.
Then the Publisher should respond here.
You really do not appreciate the difference.
> The Publisher should respond here.
Yesterday morning in this thread I asked the poster to email me his personal
information. When he does, I will contact the subscription company to make
sure his refund was processed as he requested.
John Atkinson
Editor, Stereophile
give a shit but he still doesn't have any control or influence over ANY magazine's corrupt subscription
practices, unless he cancels a personal subscription in protest over them.
That's just not how that business operates.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
Many went into quite a bit of detail as to how the publishing business is run, that circulation is largely contracted out and/or otherwise out of the hands of the editor of one small specialized journal hidden away in a corner of a larger publishing house.
For all we know it might be something unique to how magazines are circulated in Australia?
I get cards in the mail with Subscription Offers.
I wait until it's $10-$12/year, then I send it in.
Same with Ab Snd, I never pay more than that.
Complain to your card issuer.
Done that before.
They love to cancel you card and give you a new one. That is a royal hassle
Will be calling again tomorrow night, since you cannot email or put anything in writing to the Stereophile scam line.
love to issue new cards?
