At least something as simple as speed stability/accuracy. In a thread on the Steve Hoffman forums there are a bunch of measurements taken with a smart phone amp that uses the iphone's gyroscope. Quite frankly it is pretty appalling to see the results of one particular British manufacturer (glass platters, plinky plinths...) measuring as much as 2 rpm over or under.
Hifi News and Record Review does measure turntables and their results are quite beneficial.
Follow Ups:
In the late 70's and through the 90's magazines were invaded by the Ivor factor. What Ivor said was right and everything else was wrong. Thus they spent untold pages attacking direct drive turntables because Ivor said that only belt drive tables were worth listening to. They bashed Japanese gear that a few issues before they loved because Ivor said it was no good. Ivor pretty much told the "journalists" what to believe. . Ivor said that measurements meant nothing, so measurements became unmusical and the ear of a middle aged man with declining hearing, was the only way to tell if a piece of equipment was functioning as it should. It wasn't until the new century that magazines like Stereophile emerged from the Ivor years and started to awake from the dark ages. One day we may again get measurments that almost equal what the Horrible Monster, Julian Hirsch, gave us in Stereo Review 40 years ago.
All this because they belonged to the cult of Ivor.
When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it. ~ Bernard Bailey
Ivor fed us a lot of Malarky... My linn was not that great,,It was indeed noisey
I would much prefer to see measurements of phonograph cartridges. We used to get them in the old days from High Fidelity Magazine, Stereo Review Magazine, and Audio Magazine but no more. Do measurements of phono cartridges matter? I think they do. I'd also like to see specifications for compliance and dynamic mass.
As for turntables, I only buy one brand and it isn't made anymore.
It was one of the things that Stereo Review did well, as well as tape deck measurements. Of course tape decks are not sold much anymore.

If rumble was measured,, Most turntables would be in the local landfill..
Surely the likes of Quality Record Pressings could press a blank lp of high quality for such a purpose.

SORRY john,, Not true,,, Mine was a piece of noisy junk...Its now in a landfill..
AFAIK rumble is not much of a problem with modern tt's. What tt's have you found have excessive rumble?
Yeah, I haven't had a turntable with audible rumble in 50 years.
Hard-to-hear rumble can nevertheless rob amplifier power and cause woofers to flap. Flagrant audibility is not necessary to generate such results.
Jeremy
... I do love the concept of "flagrant audibility." :-)Since I don't remember my woofers ever flapping and I didn't detect any rumble (even years ago when both my ears worked properly), I think I'll have to stand by what I said.
EDIT: My current (since 2007) highly modified Lenco is quiet as a tomb at any speed from 33 1/3 to 78 rpm. Idler-drive turntables are supposedly subject to rumble, but mine sure isn't.

Linn for starters

The LP12 has very low rumble, well below the typical level of cutting
lathe turnscrew noise between tracks on an LP.

Land fill..?The LP-12 is still a great table, especially with modern updates, Sound, well enuff for me to pass on most of the New Super stuff within reason. I'm sure it will give what ever it was replaced by a good run..
LP-12 try one you will like it ..

Mikey Fremer does do so in Analog Corner, using the Dr Feickert disc and
app. Art Dudley and Herb Reichert are also now using the app.
