Either you are misremembering or John is. See the response from an
erstwhile Spectron representative posted earlier today.

John was a smart guy and certainly was very wise indeed to never advertise (especially in Stereopile)!
I was president of Spectron for about a year and retained some partial ownership in the company after I left. To the best of my recollection, I do not ever recall hearing either John or Toni speak about being pressured to advertise in Stereophile in order to receive a review. It sure did not happen while I was with them.
I will agree that Toni Decker was a lovely lady. RIP
