Not trolling just wondering what folks get to hear these days as brick and mortar stores become harder to find. Shows of course seem best these days to see lots of gear and potentially but not always set up better. So if you read Stereophile what percentage of the components/speakers* that they review would you guess you have heard or will hear within a year? The "within a year" is based on recent reviews that may take you time to find and audition.

But I could say the same thing about any durable good. I would have to make an effort, if I had interest in such things as $500 shoes, $5K suit, an exceptional European automobile, great wine and superb food, as it all must be sought out.
We are responsible for much of this as when the auditioning is over we then want a lower price, which has killed the brick and mortar store when manufactures had to sell more and thus internet selling and Fed Ex and UPS turned the business into what it is. If I go to a brick and mortar store and they spend time with me and help me make a choice I will buy from them, period. I don't waste people's time being disingenuous about my motives. No one likes to be used.
When the market for such things is small, like high end audio, buyers must make an effort if their interest is high. I am often surprised by the fact there are any audio stores left with such a difficult business model as there is. Very hard to be in retail these days for anyone.
Local, metropolitan trade shows will be a must for high end audio to survive and grow. They are costly, but it is what it is.

Except for USB Dacs.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
Thanks- Me too now that I no longer am a high end dealer and live in the boonies. I don't understand why you are the only one that answered the question. I like reading about almost any gear and wanted to know is Stereophile motivated them to see the gear reviewed. I guess I'll never know...

Essentially none. Several years ago I attended Axpona in Jacksonville and could have answered about 20% or so. There are very few audio retailers remaining outside of the larger cities, so listening opportunities have substantially decreased for many enthusiasts.
Maybe 1%.
I, for one, am happy about the robust return of "Audio" shows.
May they never perish.
Some times you can hear all the heavy hitters. I know I have.

Yep, shows are the place. Often good to talk to the manufacturer as well. Not many stores anymore and even tougher finding higher end stuff made in small qtys.
