Your reaction to the cost of these units is not uncommon among hobbyists. I've noticed it numerous times at this venue and elsewhere. What I've never understood is why such prices make audiophiles angry. They appear to suffer from a resentment, fueled by envy, because they can't afford "the best" components. Do you have the same reaction when you see the price of a Ferrari? A yacht? A bottle of La Tache? Or is it just audio prices that make you bristle?

especially as we watch the entire "hi-end" audiophile world pigeon-hole itself within the minute confines of whats becoming more & more a non-affordable hobby/demographic.
Captain, thrust-reverser engaged ...
Now lets see, should I purchase a boat for $50K, a new vehicle $30K, or send my kid to a better university ... or perhaps spend $80k on an amp others would envy.
(sigh)
Your ridiculous bs is unfortunately too common here. There is no reason for you to conclude that I'm angry about the cost of pre's in S'phile's list. I simply stated what's in the mag. It speaks for itself. I don't take anything in S'phile seriously enough to get angry. If you do, my condolences.Man, that Ferrari shit is so tired.

Of course not, but it's irrelevant :-) Suggesting that a poster is angry and upset is just a technique that some people use to try and push that poster's buttons, if you look for it, you'll see it used from time to time.

Well, let's review what you wrote:
"Hope you're loaded with cash.
"But cheer up, peons. There's a whopping 3 (out of 25 listed) Class A pre's available for less than $6,000. No need to worry if you're even beneath peon status though. S'phile's got your back with TWO - count 'em, TWO - rec's below Class A for under $2,300."
That smacks of sarcasm and resentment which oftentimes equates to anger and envy.
You apparently will not accept that I'm not angry. Hnm, maybe the angry one is..........you.
"There is no reason for you to conclude that I'm angry about the cost of pre's in S'phile's list"
In your OP, you wrote "Hope you're loaded with cash". Elsewhere, you wrote that Stereophile is irrelevant for you because of the lack of tubed pre-amps reviewed.
At this point, I have no idea what you're saying or why you're saying it.
Hope you're loaded with cash = anger? No, I did not write that Stereophile is irrelevant for me because of the lack of tubed pre-amps reviewed. Simply found what S'phile chooses to list (and omit) interesting, and what price points the mag seems to concentrate on and ignore. If you find their list meaningful/helpful, peachy. I don't. But hey, it ain't important enough to get angry about.
I guess my point is basically that S'phile seems to be ignoring the "middle ground", at least for preamps. Jeez, just limiting discussion to tubed pre's a Rec. Comp. list that omits CJ/AI/deHavilland/Manley/Blue Circle/EAR/Valvet/Coincident and other manufacturers that make good pre's for less than $7,500 seems silly to me. A policy that results in that is IMO, ahh, flawed.

you derailed your own thread right out of the gate. It doesn't appear that a single person who responded to your OP got the gist of your, um, non-complaint.
The gist is simply in the list. Interpret it as you see fit. If you see what I'm talking about, fine. If not, you're welcome to consider me off the wall.
Are we supposed to decide what to post based on our estimation of what % of responses will agree? Possibly I'm the only one who thinks something's amiss if - for example - not one tubed preamp (even just a line stage) under $7,500 is deemed worthy of recommendation.
peons ...
T -- it was meant just as a figure of speech.
any such "interpretation" can be considered offensive. I understand your original point, I really do (i consider SP RC list a very loose "marketing" guide at best ) ... but your choice of word, didn't help ...
