Interesting review indeed - I would also ad, that tektons probably wouldn't sound as good if they were built inside the "boat hull". I found out when I built my watt/puppy clones (out of mdf) I braced and lined the walls of top (Watt) with 1/4" lead - they walls are totally dead and weigh each 60+ lbs. Once I tried to heavy brace and 'deaden' the walls of the bass portion it was totally different story. The bass disappeared, and the bass output was affected with changing the amount of bracing and even the amount of fiber.
On the other hand, the Harberth's 'lightweight' walls are apparently another 'school of thought' that is successfully applied.

I was about type the same thing.
I own a pair and they are very fast, clean and neutral. No coloration. These are the SHL5+
The designer, Allen Shaw, has noted in the Harbeth user forum that manufacturing a "lively" cabinet that performs well is extraordinarily difficult. Evidently, the actual construction of these cabinets is challenging.
Given my experience with these speakers, I'd reserve judgement on the meaning of any kind of "knuckle test". It's a relevant metric, but I wouldn't automatically reach any firm conclusion on a speaker's overall quality by knowing that it's cabinet is more resonant.

Art Dudley will be reviewing the Harbeth Super HL5plus in the June issue of

"Art Dudley will be reviewing the Harbeth Super HL5plus in the June issue of

Yes it would. Our readers always get the information first.

Really liked the sound of them - much more of a refined musical sound than their predecessor, the Super HL5, which I used to own and sold...
Never really took a liking to them...
I'm sure they will get a great review - might even measure well too.
Like everything the Harbeth(BBC) damped, light wall approach is just another but different compromise. In this case the BBC was most concerned with the voice range(lots of speech on a radio station) so the compromise was to sacrifice some bass cleanliness for improved voice reproduction.
Having used Rogers LS3/5A since 1977, I cannot like other speakers voiced differently. I like Joseph Audio 7 and Harbeth 7, two speakers which have clear voice and warmth at a higher price.

Eldragon, great stuff! I have yet to hear a Harbeth speaker,so I can't say anything. One thing should of been mentioned in the review was the manufactor of the raw drivers?,important to me.....Mark
I believe the descriptive sidebar to the review noted that the tweeters were from SB acoustics (former ScanSpeak engineers partnered with the Siner Baja factory in Indonesia) and the woofers were by Eminence, which manufactures in both the US and China. Both respected companies, known for high quality drivers.
Hello Mark,
a friend, who owned Lore's told me once, the manufacturer of the Tekton drivers is Chinese company. I don't think anymore, that's necessary the bad thing. Especially if we can get the exceptional sound quality, for the fraction of the cost.
