Practicing commercial and employment law, I've seen my share of issues of this kind, as you may imagine. But the bottom line is, it often makes sense for people to stop doing business with each other, and whether they are bitter and hostile or cordial and respectful about it is usually less important in the long run.
I hope Mr. Tellig/Gillet keeps writing and publishing somewhere.

I disagree. Our advice would be equally unsolicited.
My advice isn't being asked for or given here, though it often is on this subject. All I was trying to say was, I've enjoyed both Mr. Tellig's and Mr. Atkinson's work, but at this point their parting ways is presumably best for all concerned, regardless of whether that parting is cordial or acrimonious.
Mr. Tellig may be commenting here mainly because he feels he should explain his decision to his regular readers, which seems appropriate, and Mr. Atkinson also responded appropriately, I think. All I take from that is yet another confirmation that the journalism business is tough and getting tougher, and 30-year stints like Mr. Tellig's are going to be rare in the future.
We don't know how long this will last. They are a very festive people. –Elaine Benes

You understood me and you're saying it again. If this is not double talk, at what point do you see their parting as cordial?

He may be the average inmate, at this point, but I'm not giving in to speculation.
