In Reply to: RE: I agree that with today's best DACs, the sound quality of many Red Book CDs is scary-good posted by John Marks on January 07, 2015 at 10:14:46
I am actually finding that the 1990s top 20 bit DACs sound more natural than nearly all of the wiz bang newest technology. I have a DAC now with the Ultra Analog chips, one of the most expensive DAC modules ever made, that with redbook walks all over any of the ESS based DACs I have heard. I haven't heard the Bricasti though...could be promising. I have heard the Metrum Hex recently and thought it superb with NOS old tech...
Still a good analog rig tops all digital I have heard...regardless of the price of the digital system or its technology.

And the former factory tech can still fix it, as long as the supply of lasers holds out.

Any idea what it was using for a chipset?
