As I believe I've already told you, fmak, we decided to optimize our
electronic editions for tablets purely to annoy you. :-)
And my apologies for all the advertising in Stereophile. Despite my best
efforts, audio manufacturers apparently still want to be associated
with Stereophile's content. :-)

Pretty sure it's the latter.

Yes, and last time I checked "philes talk a very good game about wanting content with no ads, but when asked subsize such a product, when they reach into their pockets all that comes out is lint. Money talks bullshit walks.
They want stereophile, but they want it ad free, for 15 bucks a year. Redefining delusional?
Annual copy of HiFi News. Far superior to the equipment issue of Stereophile, with the best audio from all over the world and an interesting read.
JA's post is really full of attitude. Just note the number of inmates who don't like the digital edition.
Absolute Sound is a much better presented as a digital magazine.
I think JA knows all about HiFi News & Record Review. Perhaps you might recall that.
When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it. ~ Bernard Bailey
HiFi News has miniscule distribution in North America. And for good reason, a good number of the products, and those in HiFi+ are not distributed in the USA.
The question remains would you be willing to spend $150 a year for an ad free publication. I highly doubt it, and nobody else is either.
I don't buy US stuff unless I have access to local service support either. Returning boxes to the US costs a bomb.Krell used to charge totally unreasonable prices for simple jobs in the UK. I had top ask Dan Agostino in public to let me have info on how to change voltage from 220V to 230V, their agent wanting £230 to do so.
And oh, I am talking aout enjoyment in reading, not whether a magazine wants to optimise for PAD reading to 'sell 'em high' and 'shift 'em low' either. The TAS digital version is far superior to the Stereophile version for readability and I shall keep subscribing.
Stereophile is being displaced by it's free sister Audio Stream. Nowadays, measurements for high end products have become a lot more trivial, and if you want them, HiFiNews lets you access all the test data.
