of 'affordable' speakers and their comparisons with other 'budget' speakers are not valid unless he compares them with Tekton speakers.

Follow Ups:
The first trick with Tekton is being able to stomach the proprietor. The second is to develop a taste for a flat, narrow, forward sound. I elected to send mine back.
I'm curious, how long to do music drivers take to break in?
Billy Wonka,
I won't comment on your statements, but why don't you list the particulars of your system just so others have some kind of reference as to what you're hearing?
Cheers,

From your statement I can only conclude then that the Tekton is the best there is and that means tests of other affordable speakers are a waste of time.
Or it means that every reviewer of affordable speakers must have a set of Tektons handy.
They may be good but that's not practical. I could say the same thing about the SEAS Idunn kit that I once reviewed(although you have to put it together which would tell you a bit more about it) but I wouldn't.
Hahax, there are so many inmates who like the Tekton a lot. As a benchmark, it nay be a good one to compare similarly priced speakers. Since the Tekton is not available in the stores, it isnt easy for the masses to compare it with the others. I would very much like to see RJR compare it to the new Revel along with a KEF LS50. He used to have a Nola Rascal which gave the other speakers a run for the money.
In any case, I hope JA will be kind enough to waive the rules and review the Tektons. It will be very interesting to study the measurements as done by JA.

It sounds like an interesting speaker. I looked it up and read reviews. Enough people like it to impress me. I just think you can't expect reviewers to know it as a reference even though it sounds like a great comparison. Each reviewer has to use what references he has available.
Hah
In the late 1970s, there was an audio showroom on Madison Ave in mid Manhattan with several brands of speakers and one man playing them for us to compare them. It was a favorite pastime of some of us to spend our lunch hour there. There was no entrance fee and I wondered who paid for the steep rent and the maintenance. Sure enough it did not last too long. But it was a good idea and we had a great time. I still has the nice sound of the Rectilinear 5 in memory.

Don't you just miss the good old places we could hang with others with our interests. I hung for years at a retail store, Personalized Audio(later became Melos). Lots of good people and the owner actually didn't care if you bought or not. Wednesday nights at 9 turned into some of the best, sane beer parties ever.
My favorite hangout was a place near Wall St, on Nassau if Memory serves, called the Audio Graveyard, guys walking around huge amps like Ampzilla, Citation and a few more emitting heat and a nice sweet smell. Cobwebs in the corners, a cross and sofas with no legs. Tshirts of the Dead piled up on a few huge floorstanders, Infinity and JBL I remember but the music coming from the walls. I thought the fattest guy was the owner but never could figure because we all acted like owners.
Nostalgia can make one cry.

Second,
valid is in the mind of the reader.
I stopped subscribing to them many years ago, based simply on two things- reviews of high priced gear that most mortals cannot afford, and using my own ears to make buying/building decisions.
Not a flame or a slap at anyone- just curious and an opinion!

Same here. But for me, audio mags are still relevant for their coverage of major advances in technology. I love my LPs, but imo high rez streaming/download services and portable players are today's big news items. Massive $40,000 speakers, not so much. ;)
I have a "starter" collection of high rez stuff (Downloaded or from my past bands), mostly in software. I do have a fairly healthy DVD-A collection too (I do consider DVD-A to be high rez when compared to CD) and can play with them with either my DVD-A player or Foobar.
I can do without the $40k speakers too. Mine (DIY) do just fine!

...or KEF LS50s.
I didn`t see Tektons in the RCs.
Valid is in the mind of the reader.
RJR is not into BS ... he may have a hard time pretending the KEF LS50 is in any way special.
LOL
Dodging bullets is the next best thing to not having to.
Yes, the KEF for sure.
I guess there are a hundred thousand readers of Stereophile.
RJR must first review perhaps the Tekton Lores. But the magazine's rules may come in the way, of having a certain number of retailers et al.
