I get almost no enjoyment from online reviews. Looking at photos might be better, but reading text? Nah. Being at the PC is work.
Print subscription is just plain better for enjoyment. The problem is, I tend to take things more as gospel when I read them in a print publication, because I can read it over and over, and drool instead of thinking critically. It's kind of an activity in and of itself, regardless of the actual value to one as a 'consumer' of audio.
Truly objective information (for example, a very balanced and hype free report on something) is less enjoyable to read, which is why there's so little of it in the glossy press.
I would seriously pay much more for an audio magazine that tried very hard not to just hype the latest and greatest, and used all the experience and background of genuinely knowledgeable reviewers to give a reader the proper perspective on audio systems in the home. The big glossies mostly fail to do that in favor of entertainment.
Which is partly why the subscription prices are so low to begin with.
I agree BTW about the Zinio Stereophile. It's laborious.
Follow Ups:
It has been much improved and gone back to the style and coverage of the 70s, before the hype and lack of substance started to creep in. May be you can buy some copies where you are to read first.
Second,
both HiFi News & HiFi+ are outstanding!
so keen on the HiFi+ content.
