i read this today from hometheatrereview.com (unsigned review of YBA Passion Integre integrated amplifier):
Concluding Line: "But I'd feel a lot better about it [the amp] if the French weren't so nasty about British lamb"

On the topic of a $40k preamp showing 30x some distortion in one channel compared to the other, the measurements of which were boldly declared to be "beyond reproach" on the month's cover, a reader asked:
"I would like to know what "beyond reproach" means given all of the discussion on this thread."
Atkinson replied:
"The "beyond reproach" comment applies to the left channel, as I tend to
give manufacturers the benefit of the doubt in cases like this."
I submit that should stand the test of time for the category in question.
LOL

I liked this too --"....the only reason people knew that there was a (small) problem
with the Momentum preamp's right channel was because I told them in the
review."Considering none of us had the thing to check out ourselves, how else could we possibly know? Guess we're supposed to applaud him for not hiding what he discovered from his readers.

"A new 82% larger R-core power transformer provides greater reserves for low-end impact that the company says is 'beyond imagination', so please don't try imagining this at home, especially if you are alone."

May I post something that I wrote? I had a brief (and very rare) inspiration for the Krell Phantom III preamp review:
"Harmonic depth, which tells the listener about tone and emotion, is largely absent. ... I thought of a beautiful woman with an IQ of room temperature. Let’s be kind and use the Fahrenheit scale. Sadly, there is simply not much there."
Happy listening!

You pretentious little jerk. Go away and bother someone else.
Have a nice day!
Hey, man, I am not little!
The older I get the more I'm thinking I need to say how I really feel before it's too late.
Happy listening!

Tellig on the Klipsch La Scala (2006) "it came out in 1963 and weighs 175 lbs. I weighed 175 lbs in 1963."

But the entire review of the Whisker Record Cleaner, in an early issue of The Absolute Sound by Harry Pearson.
In its entirety:
"Plainly, a piece of shit."
I use to get annoyed because HP rarely finished any of his reviews. I would wait and wait and wait for the conclusion, then finally give up. But I still enjoyed his articles, hoping that someday his brilliance as a writer would rub off on me. Sadly it never did.
And I remember being shocked by HP's comment. Not shocked by the word "shit", but that a magazine would print such a blunt, straightforward opinion of a product. I loved it, but it certainly wasn't what I was used to from the mainstream audio mags.
Oh, and from my experience, HP's take on the Whisker was on the money. I took a guy I worked with to one of our local stereo emporiums (remember those?). He brought an LP with him, and they used the Whisker to clean it prior to demoing whatever we had come to listen to. He told me later than the record didn't sound so good anymore after that.
Yes, this was when Pearson and TAS were relevant and you could trust them to tell it like it is (or was).
and I do on certain topics (I used to piss him off about the Second Amendment), but he will tell you straight (from his perspective) whether it's about audio, politics, sushi, etc.
He never was the paid voice for anything he didn't truly like.
In a 6Moons review for the Acoustic Revive 77, the reviewer noted that the "Tone was RAVAGINGLY beautiful".
Errr . . . that would be RAVISHINGLY, right? At least I hope that's what he meant!

"If you are the owner of a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliant true-to-life fidelity. In short, you can purchase this record with no fear of its becoming obsolete in the future."
"Trust me....I'm a reviewer."
I used to think it funny to read about the impressions of many reviewer(s) as they would state something like..." listening to this piece of gear or loudspeaker" "I heard the brass on the horn OR wood on the acoustic instrument".
Sometime last year, during an audition session at a dealer/retailer in NC, I heard it all for myself and related.
"I heard the brass on the horn OR wood on the acoustic instrument".
There was a time I didn't believe it either. Until I heard it for myself. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I always thought Sam Telling was funny. Especially when Lars was around.
Laughing...Sue,
yes Sam was always a little deep in the port (if you know what I mean).
On a serious tip, a system does require true synergy to get those wonderful nuances.
Laughing...
"I can't understand why Earwax Ed liked this amp so much, it completely failed on the test bench."
"This is the one I'd buy, if I was buying in this price range."
Guess who?
"I have no idea how this thing works but it does."
That comment is so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!
