"....Roland Kirk's version of "Alfie" played on what sounds like a baritone sax."
AFAIK the only version of Alfie Kirk ever recorded is on his Now Please Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith album, and Roland plays tenor, not baritone. So unless Mikey has discovered a recording I'm totally unaware of - unlikely since I'm a big Kirk fan and own quite a few of his albums - apparently Fremer can't hear the diff between bari and tenor, and/or the JC3+ makes 'em sound the same :-)
"When Kirk slams the opening note, your head does snap back!"
I've linked Kirk's recording of Alfie. Hear anything that'd make your head snap back when Kirk makes his entrance? Have trouble hearing its tenor and not baritone?
Jeez, Mikey.
Follow Ups:
Mikey has become a cartoon charicture of himself. He is bombast and hyperbole are comical at this point. He also has delusions of being a musician. He wanted so bad to be a pop star.

Hmmmm ... I think smell irony.
Indeed I do.
There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in.

Yeh Mannnnnnnn!
and what he did:BTW, the sound quality is a 6 and the performance... uh... also a 6.
And remember: Comedy is NOT Pretty.

He is a jester, an analogue jester...
but then I understand he has a background in entertainment, stand-up and other things, so for him it's probably not as far out of his element as some might suspect.

Mikey was continuing something I started at the 2011 LA&OCAS Gala, where,
as I had lost a bet with Bob Levi and Richard Beers concerning the
attendance at the inaugural Newport Beach Show, I had to make a fool of
myself in public :-)Writers and editors from other audio magazines have yet to follow in our

........that this was just a joke, or something he did for grins at his nephew's bar-mitzvah. Then I realized that Fremer wasn't kidding, he wasn't at anyone's bar-mitzvah, and he actually took himself seriously. How sad.
No, he was not kidding.
you and abs1 can now wring your wet panties out and move on.

And just how do we know that? Are you that gullible as to believe any Stereophool excuse that's offered here?
I choose to believe that Fremer is an egotistical ham judging by his past behaviors, and my choice is accentuated by the fact that I don't like him very much to begin with.
And I don't like you either, troll!
Cheers,
Al
Anyone who writes "and my choice is accentuated by the fact that I don't like him very much to begin with." with reference to Fremer is allright in my book.
Could you imagine what an evening with Fremer and Jazz Inmate would be like?

I doubt that I could handle an entire evening without resorting to .......

That was painful!
Somebody buy that man a hearing aid.
Which coincidentally might improve his performance in his day job quite dramatically too.
Might stop him listening to price tags rather than the actual piece of gear.
PS: If you are not Frank Sinatra wearing a Trilby makes you look like a d••k.
Painful is being kind. And he ain't Sinatra...not even Sinatra's shoe shiner.
Laughing...
