Hmmm, I have read some of his audio reviews before, for gear I have. He does NOT, in general, believe all this or that sound the same. In fact he regularly puts stuff in its sonic place, especially when its brand name makes it significantly more expensive than better-performing cheaper stuff. The last time I looked at his site was for headphones. I was looking seriously at the time. He was right on IMO.
And BTW: would not a *perfect* DAC have absolutely no sound character of its own at all? I would expect it wouldn't, though I know people all like their own coloring books and crayons. I 100% agree with him on this point.
And on the 'phones too, I can tell you he certainly isn't inexperienced based on what I've heard from the same phones. If you're ever looking to find some deals in the audio market, you could easily do far worse than going by his recs, he has a pretty good practical eye (and ear) I think.

He thinks an iphone 5 dac is sonically flawless, as well.
Since there's no such thing, the point is moot, isn't it?
NOTHING has zero, or even close to it, "coloration" or sound character - and the least of all $299 DAC, from a manufacturer most known for churning out mediocrity in large quantities.
Read the review:
As expected, the sound is the same between the two DACs, except for the slightly hotter level of the V90-DAC. Casual audiophiles will imagine all sorts of sonic subtleties which are just the result of the slight level shift.
If that's something that resonates with you, that's fine. It doesn't with me - and not just that. It disqualifies, for me, whatever that person has to say on any audio-related subject, period.

You are just another audiophile who thinks that audio quality correlates with price and who is influenced by the reputation of the manufacturer among ... well, we don't know whose opinions you rely on.

In the thread below, I clearly mentioned that I have first-hand experience with 2 MuFi pieces.
Why can't $299 Musical Fidelity DAC sound good enough to deserve to be listed in Stereophile Class A components - or be a part of my system, for that matter? It's called experience , something you're so sorely lacking.
Price is clearly one of the main things which influence your audio judgment. You just illustrated once more.
