- You don't have a say, unless you pay! -
This statement is wrong on so many different levels! You write intelligently, so it's hard to believe that even YOU believe it.
You're kidding,.......right?
Not counting those who get their stuff for free, we've ALL paid!!
Follow Ups:
Once again 'paid' in the past tense.
Industries don't survive in the past tense. Audio is dying, in part because too many people want it frozen in time. This beatification of HP and JGH are prime examples of this. They are and were writers, not saints. A lot of what they said isn't relevant today; if it was republished now, it would only appeal to those who were there at the time.
Manufacturers, magazines and stores alike have to reach people who buy, not people who stopped buying. A magazine with too many readers who no longer buy the products written about in that magazine is doomed. It would be doomed even if it took no advertising revenue, because no manufacturer would submit a product for review - a review would be ineffectual if positive and potentially damning if not. So the people who buy things on the basis of what goes into the magazine (whether that is advertising or product tests) ultimately help dictate what goes into that magazine. The moment you stop buying new stuff, you stop dictating those things.
