Hello all,
I found a CAT5 cable from MECI (MECI part #: 631-0101C), which was noted as 1585A equivalent. Can somebody verify if this cable is infact the right cable (CAT 5, Teflon, unshield, etc.) for my DIY CAT5 (Chris VH recipe) project? The price is so cheap (8 cents/foot) and makes me wonder...
Thanks,
TD
Follow Ups:
apparently they vary on what they send. Some inmates have reported receiving 1585a. I got 1701a. Same cable, but the pairs are bonded together. Sometime later tonight (and into tomorrow I'm guessing since were talking 54 splits) I'm going to very patiently use an xacto blade to split the pairs on the first channel I built. Heck, I'm in no hurry ...steve
Steve,
Thanks. I'll call them tomorrow to verify the fact that the twisted pairs are bonded or not. It's kind of painful to split these pairs up...isn't it? Happy splitting...

It actually hasn't gone as bad as I thought it would. Tedious, but not that difficult, and definitely no more so than doing the braids. The customer service rep told me I'd be getting 1585a. I'm pretty convinced they are not all that aware of what goes on the truck.
You'll be able to finish the cable with either one. I'd just say keep your fingers crossed ....steve
