I strongly recommend that the bare wire strands not be tinned with solder, since the solder will create a surface barrier with poor conductivity vs. bare copper. Solder works fine when it's used to create a proper solder joint, but it's a poor material for surface conduction.

Thanks everyone.Sorry...my mistake...I didn't mention that it's just the stripped ends that I intend to treat. Still not a good idea probably?

You can touch the tips without causing the copper to tarnish. bare minumum solder, no clump on the end..
You do not want to ever touch bare copper with your skin. The oils in skin will cause the copper to tarnish.
If you really are using bare copper (with no insulation at all.. Covering the wires with a cotton sheath is the best choice to keep the wires from contacting surfaces or each other.
