I never indicated that cable must be expensive to be good. The cable I use for my main speakers cost little more than the BJC stuff because it is very short and I made it myself. I am not concerned with pecking order based on price or any other criterion. If you love BJC, that's great. Glad you found the right cable for your system.
I welcome the opportunity to compare cables unsighted. I'm confident I can discern the difference if there is one. It's not hard to do. BJC is decent entry level cable. It's cheap and sturdy if all you want is cheap and sturdy. It's called Blue Jeans for that reason. It doesn't do anything badly, but neither is it highly resolving. I have recommended it to others and use it myself where economy trumps accuracy.
This is a contentious topic and perhaps we take it too seriously. Any suggestion should stand on its own merit. The OP spent a lot of money on his stereo and knows little about cable but is interested to learn. Some of you made very personal or parsimonious recommendations that might not serve him well. Others offered vague platitudes and no really helpful information. Is this a forum for discussion or a kindergarten where everyone gets a trophy for participating? Make a suggestion that I think is bad and I'll say so, and give reasons for it. I try to not criticize other posters personally. If anyone takes offense, it was not intended. I mean to be assertive, not rude.
Oh well, it's no longer important because I think he got scared off by the inmates. This is all so petty. I'm done with this thread. Next suggestion will be eBay mil-spec silver plated copper with PVC insulation, and no one should say a thing against it.

For EVERY cable I've seen recommended, somebody stands up and says 'No, not in MY system!'
Silver this. Carbon that. Poly whatever. Oil soaked cotton over Teflon!
It is all opinion and wacky. I really wish I could put you to the test. Unless the cable has some very bad problems, I'd suspect failure to distinguish or 'chance' results.
At least reasonable advice to a newbie is to NOT spend a bundle and to buy fundamentals. Low resistance, inductance AND capacitance. That's as good a starting point as you'll find, and even that gets many persons hackles up.

Note that your insistence on el cheapo cables is treading the line for this latter rule, and you could be banned at any time for it.
Don't like the rules, don't post here.
People do not need to be "saved from themselves", and no one elected you as the savior. Chill out or face the consequences.

Hi All,
I appreciate everyone's help in this discussion. It's amazing how much technology has evolved, and I understand there is reasonable debate about how much to spend. Honestly I'm pretty scared of the "basic low end stuff" and so I very much hear the comments. Additionally, I don't want to blow it out at the beginning, for two reasons
1) I want the ability to change out cables to improve the sound later - cheapest way to have a noticeable upgrade
2) I don't know enough and am likely to make a bad decision
I'm inclined to use a "brand name" kind of cable like Audioquest that has been recommended by several. I am going to check out DNM too. I understand I might be overspending by going with a brand name but I just don't feel like I know enough to assess alternatives.
Again, very helpful discussion. These boards have been priceless at helping me put together my dream system. I have found a way to wire the speakers with 15 feet each, possibly less, based on posters advice.
This was all great for me. Thank you.
