In Reply to: RE: DH Labs Q10 Signature speaker cable.... a good choice for above 'bang for the buck'? posted by sideliner on April 07, 2015 at 08:34:58
I really don't know understand why have a boner for my statement..I said it was an off the charts value. NO WHERE did I say it was the best cable on the market, or better than far more expensive offerings.I said IN COMPARISON to far more expensive offerings it shows its value.
I use it one of my auxillary systems, not main main system.
And let's get real. The cable has been in continuous production for over a decade, and it costs $450 for an eight foot pair.
So much for "extraordinary claims".

OK, you did put the whole thing in better perspective with your latest comment which wasn't the case initially. I probably over reacted a bit, just as you over reached somewhat with your original 20X-the-price comment. The funny thing is, that it is conceivable to find a system in which this cable can outperform a $10K set of cables - no argument there. On the flip side of the coin, it's also conceivable that a system could also be assembled where a rat shack zip cord could synergize and perform better than the DH Labs cable.
My point in all this, is that for cables (IMO more so than with other components), price is less indicative of performance, BUT this can go both ways - up as well as down.
Fair enough, no hard feelings.
I agree with your statement about price.
Cables happen to be a product category that seems to have the most pitfalls for audiophiles with all sorts of pseudo scientific claims, arbitrary pricing, and for some reason cables have become status symbols, and manufacturers have taken full advantage of that in their marketing.
The end effect is that the cable makers have gotten away with such a con job "cheap" cables are viewed with suspicion.
I agree with everything you said and especially so with your last statement.
Cheers.
I truly believe in high end audio there is a clear case of Stockholm Syndrome. Especially with cable manufacturers and customers. Some cable companies have a cult like following, and no matter how much they abuse their followers, they come back for more.
