Hi all,
I just bought a bluray player that doesn't have coaxial inputs. I am looking at either the chord optichord or vanden hul optocoupler Mk II optical cables. Which is the best sounding cable? Thanks in advance.

Out to about 6 or 8 feet I'd consider the cable sold by Blue Jeans.
It'll be PLASTIC which at that distance is FINE.
They use Mitsubishi Eska plastic.

Honestly just go down to the box store and get an opto-cable with decent construction and call it a day.
Unless you are a believer that frou frou cables are superior, in which case get the more expensive one as they always sounds better.
Yes the Lifatec Digital Cables are the best optical cables I've experienced as well. I've also discovered a very good Coaxial Digital Cable from Klee Acoustics. Expensive but VERY GOOD!!
I have not tried the Chord Company and Van Den Hul Toslink products, so I am not at liberty to comment.However, I have found the Lifatec Silflex to be more neutral, accurate, and self-effacing, than several other Tos-link AND coaxial cables.

There may be times when we have no choice, but to use Tos-link. If that is the case, then the Lifatec Silflex is one people can generally afford [lengths under 13 feet retail for less than US$100].

IME, the Lifatec Silflex Glass Toslink is the best sounding digital optical cable. It's more affordable than a number of premium Toslink cables offered by audiophile cable manufacturers. IME, it sounded much better than the Van den Hul Optocoupler Mk II. Reports about it can be found in the AA archives:
