So you bought them Used or New for $70? I don't recall how these cables are priced.
If used, than give the party you bought them from and explain your situation and see what they say.
If new, I don't see why you can't give the mfg an opportunity to address the issue.

Yeah I guess it's kinda embarrassing going back to a manufacturer and saying that you can't get their piece of straight, single core wire to work.
the truth hurts. It's 12 gauge enamel coated wire. Very easy to solve any issue with it.

I had a guy buy a tube buffer stage from me years ago and complained that he couldn't get any sound thru it. Turned out he never plugged the power cord into the AC outlet. Hey, he turned the power switch ON, what more was he to do. I guess he thought the power cord was just hanging there on the back side for decoration. This guy probably also returned unknown numbers of lamps to Target that don't work :)
