that it's three wire. I'm trying to understand the 'practical' purposes for the Speakon connected.

Follow Ups:
Three conductors, one conductor for each stereo channel positive, and only one conductor for common ground connected to one channel negative are connected to stereo power amplifier speaker output binding posts. The other end of the cable is plugged into the REL subwoofers 3-pole Speakon input jack which is wired with proper polarity for each conductor.
i get that. The conductors aren't the question. The Speakon connector is the question. Is it a quality connection? Can better/thicker wire improve the sonics?

Speakon connectors perform well and are worthy of high quality wire, meaning you will hear a difference vs. lesser wire. However, a larger conductor in general does not necessarily mean better sonics, so choose wire based on the same criteria as you would any other application. In fact, if you are building a speaker level subwoofer cable like that of the REL, it is unnecessary to use large gauge conductors since there is miniscule current demand for a speaker level subwoofer input application.
Thanks much. That Is what I was looking for.
