In Reply to: RE: If the current is not that much why not a good mic cable ... posted by beppe61 on June 15, 2014 at 03:01:26
Hi bg,
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I have considered microphone cables and will actually try them. My voltage and current requirements are relatively modest I think.
Thanks again, Gaby

Hello to you
I know the cable in question ... the construction quality is very high
You should find some specs around about resistance and so on.
I have used it as extension cord for headphones and i liked the sound extremely.
If the VDC is not very high you can think to use even XLR connection for little VDC and Ampere values.
Good luck !
Kind regards,
bg
Another option for a low-current demand, DIY DC umbilical project is DH Labs BL-1 bulk length cable. While intended for line-level interconnect use, it's well respected for low-current DC umbilical applications according to Darren Hovsepian of DH Audio.
DH Labs BL-1 bulk length cable: 20 AWG silver plated copper with Teflon dielectric twisted pair, foil shield with drain wire (connect at power supply end, only).

Hi and thanks Mr. Duster for the valuable suggestion as always
I have a kind further question about power cables
Do you think that a shield is really needed also for analog equipment ?
I am quite sure for digital, but not so with analog
Thanks again
Kind regards,
bg
Shielding is not always needed, since cable geometry such as a tightly twisted pair/triad and star quad designs rather than shielding can reject/suppress noise. However, shielded power cords for digital applications and phono turntables tend to be beneficial, whereas power amplifiers and preamplifiers tend to sound better with unshielded power cords. These are not hard rules, so YMMV.
Hi and thanks a lot for the very helpful advice
Digital is a bad beast ... i knew
It is very convenient ... but it is a pain to make it sounds fine
Thanks again Mr. Duster.
Kind regards,
bg
