Hi,
I own a 4.5x2 m of Kimber 4 TC but I'm considering cutting them in the middle to have two runs of 2.25m, as I succeded in putting the power amp much nearer to the speakers. My aim is to biwire my B&W 804s.
Before I cut: does it make sense ? May I expect some benefits ?
In case, would it be better to twist the two runs or leave them separated ?
Ah, one more fundamental question: my amp is an ARC 100.2 which has speakers outputs for just one pair of speaker: if I connect both runs to one set of speaker output (say 2 red cables to red left channel single output, 2 black cables to black left channel single output and so on) will I blow my amp or damage anything ?
One last question: should I rather sell my 4TCs and buy a single (and shorter) run of 8TCs ? :-D
Thanks, ciao
Daniele

today, during lunch-time (I live very very near to the office where I work) I had a first listen after biwiring.
wow !
I don't know it's due to biwiring or other factors (er... auto suggestion ?) but I think I've heard clear improvements.
I'm not talking of a "revolution", but a bit more than "nuances".
May it be or am I trying to convince myself ? :-)
Bi-wire is a matter of nuance -- subtlety tends to be a big deal from an audiophile POV. Treble should sound cleaner, with better perceived spatial cues when the influence of the EMF backwave is eliminated from the hi-pass crossover section. Another influence you may hearing is the fact that the speaker cables are much shorter now, which also tends to be a very good thing.
Yes, that's what I thought too: improvement, thiugh not dramatic, are more than edpected and I guess it' the sum of several factots: biwiring itiself, shortening a long (and very capacitive) cable and... Maybe removing the stock "bridges".

Yes, you should find clearly heard benefits if you connect your B&W 804s via bi-wire method, since to bi-wire the B&W 800 series is a must-do.

Leave the external bi-wire cables spaced apart rather then twist them together (not a good thing to do in this case).

No damage.

Bi-wire is vital to the 800 Series. You may eventually consider upgrading the 4TC cables that connect the low posts with a run of 8TC instead.
Thanks, Duster. :-)
Do you plan to terminate the cables with connectors or a bare wire connection? How are your single run 4TC cables connected at this time?
I did it, Duster !
Now it's night here in Italy and I can't rise up the volume as I live in a block, but tomorrow I will know :-)
My 4TC were terminated with forks at bot ends.
Now I connect them wiyth the same forks to the amp outs and with bare wire and a set of bananas I had to the speakers.
More comments to come...
Excellent!
BTW, listening to newly-inserted cables at low volume levels is an important evaluation aspect. Folks tend to jack-up the volume when they hope to be fully impressed with a new upgrade ;-)
You might consider upgrading the connectors if they are none too special, with a perhaps better sounding/functioning product.
just a thought

you're right, I'm not a "> 110db guy" if it's not required by music itself, but last night it was more a "check that it all works" than listening, though, even so, I had the impression of a more coherent sound at low volume levels (that may be a concern with 804s) and an increased "ease", fluidity in sound emission.
but I thought to myself I was convincing myself because I wanted to hear improvements... :-)

yes, that's something I'll take into consideration.
thanks !
