I was just wondering, if an increase in capacitance will result in more or less bass response? Thank you.

More capacitance where? Line Level ICs, ICs for Active or Passive preamp, Speaker Cable, for high or low output impedance source and what input impedance...
But in most of the cases it has no impact on the bass, it may, and I say may, have effect on the high frequencies. Look at the Goertz cables, they are all high capacitance and they have no issues with any part of the spectrum. With passive preamps, high capacitance is a killer.
I should have been more clear.. it is for my phono stage. I was thinking that maybe I am not getting much bass from my records because I do not have enough capacitance between my high-output, Shure V15III cartridge my preamp.

What phono stage are you using. Also table set up can affect bass response significantly.
It doesn't sound like a cable or capacitance issue.
I am using an Audio Research SP8 MkII (which has low pf capacitance) with a high-compliance, Shure V15III. The SP8 has just come back from Audio Research, where it received all new capaciters. It used to have big, orange Sprague caps, but it now has Nichicon caps. I wonder if that could be the difference?
I have been told that the problem with the weak bass could perhaps be because I am not using Sound Anchor stands with my Vandersteen 3A Signatures.

Hate to tell you this, but it could be all of the above.
The caps may take some time to break in, the Vandersteen's may not be set up right. You might try some tonearm adjustments. Right now you need to narrow it down. Do you have access to another phono preamp? Did you have this problem before the ARC upgrade? Have you made any other changes at the same time as the ARC upgrade?
If you had good bass before, you'll need to backtrack.
Still unclear on what you are asking.
If it is cable capacitance ...
then capacitance will only effect HF.
If it is the coupling cap of phono stage output ...
then higher capaitance will improve bass.
Use C = 1 / (2*Pi*F*R)
F is usually 2Hz on a phono stage
R is the total resistance to ground
(Output R in parallel with next stage's input R)

I have often read that capacitance can effect high frequencies, but does anyone know in what way it affects the sound? Does it make the sound shrill, dull, etc.?

The capacitance of the cable forms a RC HF filter
with the output impedance of the driver stage.
It will limit the HF extension so less highs
which can make the sound duller but more likely
the soundstage will not be as clear.

As have MIT cables.
The Goertz Alpha Core speaker cables are basically a capacitor that's been rolled opened and terminated.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
And Spectral at one time required that you buy MIT cables or warranty is void. Does that make them and better or worse?
I was told by a Jupiter Cap rep that the higher the Cap value the more bass and the smaller the cap value to more lean. Loosely.
In testing different value Caps in my Havana Dac I can say that the difference in value needs to be large in order to make a significant audible difference.
It probably all depends on the type of Cap and its use in the circuit.
Also individual brands have their own sonic attributes so a large value cap from company X may sound more lean than a small cap value from company Y.
