Thanks Steve!, I was indeed afraid that this is the case.

Would the following make sense?:

1. IF both the source and the amp would have SEPARATE signal and chassis grounds
2. We would connect chassis grounds together
3. and than feed the +,- of the XLR into the RCA

any subtle risks ?
