I have used Kimber 4pr as my main speaker cables since 2002 and am looking for something better. My amp is a Denon PMA-2000ivr and it supports bi-wiring ( two sets of speaker connections one for the highs and one for the lows) so this is also an option as I can use my current Kimber wire for the woofer until I can afford something bettter. Or maybe id be better off just using one pair of extremely high quality wire and just replace the cheap jumpers instead of biwiring? My main is focus is getting rid of some slight peakiness I'm hearing with my system. The addition of the Denon helped greatly in this area, but im still hearing something I dont like and am now focusing on wires.
I listen to mostly rock music and my budget is about $150-$200 new or used is fine.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Kimber 4PR is slightly peaky, just as you say. 4VS is a modest price increase over 4PR, but has better frequency extension and resolution, and doesn't have the 4PR's peakiness. However, the old 4TC sounds better yet, and is quite a bit faster. IMO, the 4TC is worth the cost, and I think you can find used 4TC in your price range. I haven't heard the new 4TC, but it's supposed to sound better than the old.

That's what I call them. I can't remember what Rat Shack calls them but it's something like that. 14awg, flat copper braid in a clear jacket. Replaced $2000 worth of cable in my system. And the beauty is it will only cost $25 to try. I recommend some of RS's gold plated crimp spades with it. Works best as a double birwire. Audio deal of the century and a true giant killer (for me anyway). Tip of the hat to Ka7niq for this recommendation.

Not here, at all. Same cables your mentioning, Rat Shack Mega Cables. I use on my woofer only.
My 8TC is much better on my main speakers.
All setups are different for sure.

I'm always interested in giant killer super deals. Just wondering if these are the cables you speak of? I also seen - http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2273178
have you tried different inerconnects? why are you so sure it's the speaker cables?
I originally had some cheap ic's I bought from target and they sounded terrible. Replaced them with the pbj's and it made a huge improvement. But who knows maybe better ic's would prove to be a worthwhile upgrade but I want to focus on the speaker wire since theyve been in my system longer than anything else.
My next step is probabaly some sort of power conditioning as I suspect the power to my house is dirty and am thinking this could be causing problems too.
is causing your peakiness. If your cables are long enough, have you tried simply puffing the cables up but pushing them together? Start off with a small length say about 6 inches and push the length together, the cable will shorten but you will see the weave sort of puff up and create a sort of counter-wound woven tube. You'll lose about 20% of your total length but the sound will significantly improve, as you are reducing inductance and capacitance. There is a gain in the the top end detail and overall dynamics. If you like that you can simply stuff a piece of rope or aquarium tubing down the middle to give the cables an "exotic" look.
Works well for the more expensive cables in the Kimber line also. The VS series has quite a bit more punch over the PR and more bass. The TC in the new colors clear and white, has been significantly improved: much more linear and cleaner to boot. But try the puffing of the cables first, if possible. Cheap and it emulates the geometry of the Monocles and other cables in the upper end of Kimber's line ( since you already have the cables). If you don't like what you hear, just pull the cable taut and its back to normal.

I used the Kimber 4 TC ( single and biwire ) at one time in an all SS system. They were transparent and detailed.
Perhaps what you need are cables ( if indeed this is the issue ) that are more to your liking. A place to start would be solid core copper cables from Audioquest available for sale on Audio Adisor .com
They are available in your price range and are generally thought of being smooth sounding but not lacking detail. I use Audioquest Bedrock and am very satisfied ( don't know if theses are still available). Either single run with jumpers or biwire would be fine.
Thanks for the response. I say a video on youtube where they used Audioquest type 4 speaker wire and demonstrated how to biwire. These cables looked interesting as I could bi wire with a single run instead of using two different cables. These will be on my short list. Thanks
Bi=Wire with anti-cables
Hello,Iv'e never heard of this brand. Do you have any experiance with their cables, and if so how would they sound compared to my current Kimber cable? The price is definately right, but they seem sort of thin to me. Thanks for the recommendation.

They look thin from the picture but claim they are 12 gauge. Hmm maybe I will try these.
They look thin because they don't have have all the additional insulation that most other cables have. There are a lot of audiophile cables that look thicker than the Anti-cables,but in fact are not as thick.

I have two pieces of 8PR I could terminate as needed (spade or banana) 8PR is like your cable but twice as many conductors. You would then use it for LF and your 4PR for HF in a bi-wire. The only thing is my pieces aren't very long. If you're interested I will go find and measure them.

I may be interested... how long are they and how much are you selling them for?
They are pretty short. I would solder either spades or bananas on the ends and sell them for $65 plus shipping. Its about $10 a foot new. I'm assuming I have 12 feet. Not verified though.

They aren't long as I recall. Probably six feet or so. Still haven't found the box in the attic with them. I'll keep looking.
