I've been using the Eupen GNLM power cord for my monoblocks, I happened to put back the cheap standard power cords and I'm sure they sounded a lot better. The Eupen was very strong and lively sounding whereas the stock power cord sounded more tame. Are power cords more a synergy thing.
Regards,
Mike
Its all gives and takes while trying to get the perfect balance.
Experiment within your budget and within reason until your happy. I have a few older Volex power cords that I slightly modded that sound great...all of 7 bucks before the modds.
I've never heard a powercord make a difference in anything until I put JPS Aluminatas on my Pass Labs amps. I had tried just about anything from Kimber to Synergistic Research. I kind of wrote it off to a placebo effect until I took them out.
Definitely the best powercords made!

Which JPS? A friend of mine swears about Kaptivator PC.
I like my Lessloss, but maybe he can lend me his to do a comparison.

The JPS Aluminata series PC. Their top of the line. I've heard none better!

for ignorance. I don't mean this in a negative sense. It is just that there are too many variables in power cord and AC service for audio to make a blanket statement that power cord X is better than power cord Y.
The starting point is your AC service. Do you have dedicated AC circuits or a typical convenience outlet circuit? Do you have standard, spec-grade, or specialized outlets?
Your findings might have been reversed if these items were different.
one is choosing AND using them as tone controls of some sort.

Howdy
I'll disagree here.
There are lots of other parameters of power cords other than how they (might) change the FR of the component they are connected to.
They might be shielded or not which could keep RF, etc. from coming into the component or conversely from polluting the rest of the system. RF can change lots of things that people would complain about before it significantly affects the FR.
They might allow lots of instantaneous current to things like amps which may need it or conversely impede quick current changes to help filter noise into (or from) a component. Once again any FR change is secondary.
Rarely do I encounter cords that make a significant change in FR in my system. (Tho it does happen at times.) Most of the time they add a little (or detract from) inner detail, change the overall noise floor, add more life to the music (or flatten it out), etc.
Never the less I can't predict which cords are going to have which effects on which components and I'm reasonably technical and I know my components fairly well.

Eupen GNLM power cords are shielded and ferrite loaded designs that might not be such a good thing for power amplification applications. You may desire a more open sounding presentation that unshielded designs often better provide when placed on power amplifiers.
In many folks experience, satisfactory power cord selections are often prone to matters of synergy as much as any other audio cable choice. Also noteworthy (a very interesting thing) is the relationship between power cords and interconnects, as particular pairings can seem to "work in tandem" (sometimes rather profoundly) to subjectively optimize or at least pleasingly shape the sonic signature of a particular component or the gestalt of a system. Even the choice of AC connectors can make or break component/system synergy (not to mention AC outlet options...).
In my humble experience with power cords, I found that the big, thick and macho power cords tend to over emphasize the sound and ultimately provide a 'false' presentation. At the same time, the generic cord that comes with the gear is not at at all sufficient. It will sound 'tame' as you describe but it won't filter out RFI etc..and will still pass through some AC line distortions. What you need to find is a well designed power cord that will sound 'tame' and 'clean'..
One example is the Acoustic Zen El Nino Power Cord. It cleans out the AC power, will not give you an over-empahsized sonic presentation, will not change the tonal balance of your gear and will have the 'tame' character you're describing. It also works very well with all types of gear.
I'm sure there are other similar examples, but the AZ I tried and I heartily endorse and strongly recommend to those seeking a 'neutral', well balanced and sonically non-intruding power cord.
Hope this helps

Hi.
Sonic is subjective personally.
If "more tame" sound means slow, soft, opage, veiled, thanks but no thanks for me. Any cheapie stock SVT/SPT type power cords will give you this. But this exactly what I want to avoid.
I like fast, energic, transparent, yet musical sound. The right power cords can help.
