Ok whats the deal on speaker cable length? Does it really make a difference if its 20' or 6'? Look at stage production, they run their cables long length's! I am getting some cables and im not quite sure what length? I'm looking at 20' or 10'
Thanks
Crank it up!!!
I won't pretend to know what I am talking about, but...
Apparently longer cables can drive certain amps into unstable conditions (oscillation?) if the capacitance of the cable is too high. Cable design will impact the level of capacitance. Also, capacitance of a cable increases with length, so...
I was using AudioQuest F-14 in 16 ft runs. They were a relatively small guage. I switched to Zu Julian(11 guage-eventual review in the indefinite future) in a 20 ft run. Both are copper cable, nothing exotic.
I prefer the Zu.
Judging a cable's effectiveness on guage alone doesn't necessarily work. The rather exotic and high buckaroo Crystal Cable has been praised in print and online. It's a rather skinny looking piece of work.
Your best bet is to do some research and consider if a manufacturer that offers a 30- or 60-day home trial period has a product that appeals to your wallet. Then listen to that cable and see if it appeals to your ears. Better to pay for shipping than to buy something and move to another product in a short period of time. Cable depreciates faster than a new car that leaves the lot.
