OK, I been busting my butt all week to finish these cabinet plans. Looks like we're ready to sell some. Hoping our distributors are well stocked, we haven't been able to get a clear picture of their stock, so we'll just see how it goes. The kit will include the following:
-16 treated 5" aluminum cone woofers
-2 treated titanium dome tweeters
( Yeah, we do some special treatment to all the drivers, three seperate processes. No, I'm not dumb enough to tell everyone what we do. Suffice it to say Wes will be running up his hours prepping these puppies)
-120' of 20.5 ga. magnet wire ( yes, 120 feet, 40 yards)
-8 Big Stud binding posts
-Solen crossover caps
-Alpha Core foil inductors
-3" molded plastic ports
-about 4 square yards of heavy felt
-a quart of silicated latex paint
- set of plans and illustrated assembly instructions, B sheet size (11" x 17"). This will be around 10-12 sheets, and will include equipment and parts lists, blueprints of each panel, a 3-D rendering of the panel assembly steps, a wiring diagram and instructions, suggestions for finishing, and suggestions for hookup and placement.Price is $599 for the above, and you supply 1-1/4 sheets of 3/4" MDF, a couple hundred screws, polyurethane glue, tools, etc., to build your own cabinets from the plans. So your finished cost will be in the $700 neighborhood if you build your own cabinets.
Delivery will be as fast as we can get parts in, treat them, and ship them.
I just measured mine own 8s down to about 40Hz in the new 13 x 13 listening room. Response is very flat, sensitivity is 96 dB.Gotta go take the kid to basketball practice - more later
Answers to questions-We sell direct, you order the kit from us. You can order by e-mail, or by phone 360-697-1936 M-F 9-5 PT (Monday thru Thursday is best). We take VISA/MC/AMEX/DISC. Don't have a handle on the shipping cost yet.
I don't have a picture up yet, either. We're in the process of revamping the website and hopefully we'll have some pics up very soon.
Actual dimensions are 11.5W x 12D x 49H. The drivers are in a linear array with the tweeter at the top, spacing is about 1/4" between each pair of drivers. There are two side by side 3" ports on the back about 8" up from the bottom, and two pairs of Big Studs, for biamping. Crossover is first order, around approx. 4 kHz. Sensitivity is 96 dB, response is about 40Hz to 22kHz in a typical room, and quite flat. Nominal impedance is 16 ohms, they could be wired for four ohms too.
We may have finished cabinets and finished speakers for sale in the future, but don't hold your breath, as I don't have clue when that would be. Many other projects ahead of that. If any cabinet makers would like to talk to me about getting a license to do these cabinets, please call me or e-mail me.
When you are in the Puget Sound area, give us a call. We can arrange an audition.
Where will kit be available?
Can you tell me what the dimensions are of the finished speakers? Is there a picture posted anywhere on this forum. I guess I'll try the search engine.TIA,

hi doc,
any plans to make the kit availible with pre-cut cabinets included?

I'm gonna hedge on the sheet size. I've compared a B sheet from our color inkjet to an A sheet from the laserjet, and the laser copy is way more readable, even though smaller.Let's just say for now that I will deliver the kit with the best quality prints I can put out.
There's gonna be alotta happy folks, now that you've gotten this squared away Doc. BTW, I see you mention felt in the kit, would (could)you divulge your source for it? Some of us may find this useful in other projects.
