The rumour is that the Radio Shack 40-1354A has been discontinued. I picked up three at my local shack, and I plan on testing them this weekend if I have time. I'll post my results here if anyone is interested.
I could use the T/S parameters, grabbed a couple of these the other day and did not get spec sheets.
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I started the Rumor of the discontinued 40-1354.Read below, I posted this Nov 30. When I get home I'll have a close look at them and post whats written on their backside.
Nov 30 posting:
I am sure glad I made this posting, because of all the valuable information that was tapped into by this.
I was had however by that overworked store clerk: the speaker is and will be still available as you can read below, a response e-mail from Radio Shack themselves:
The speakers are still available through on-line, telephone order, and your
local RadioShack store. This item is store-stocked and can be purchased
either at your local store, by phone by contacting RadioShack.com at
800-241-8742, or on-line at http://www.radioshack.com/ProductSupport/Frames/
by entering the catalog number in the Cat#: field at the bottom left of the
screen. You can locate your nearest RadioShack store at:

For more product details, including specification, see this web page:

have any further questions. And I thank you all, Herbert
Herbert,I want to know if you are still using the 1354's in the Voigt Pipe? I'm thinking of making a speaker that can be driven by a S.E.T. amp and it sounds like RS speakers can be a good and cheap alternitive speaker.
Thanks,
Brad
Hi Joe,
Yeah I still have them in my Voigt Pipes. I did not get around to whistle them trough with a tonegenerator to check on base-response.
The other day I thought I miss some base so I tuned all kinds of FM stations in with their spectrum of music and I felt quite good again. Then I played classical CDs with full orchestras and I think there is definetly more low frequency response than I would have exspected from that little thing.
Thanks again to Valve mag and Hawai 5.0!Here is whats written on the rear, the 10 ounce magnet:
Radio Shack
Cat.No.40-1354A
20W NOM
40W Max
8 Ohms
TAIWAN
06 A 99My speakers also had a spec-sheet in the box with a graph that shows considerable roll off below 200 Hertz Like 7 dB down at 100 Hertz
and 13dB down at 50 Hertz
50 Hertz is the free air resonance. The Voigt Pipes go down to 40 Hertz.
It's worth to build! And you can always stick another driver in the Voigt pipe and review your experience.
I'm building the Hawaii 5.0 for my daughter now. Of course I'm very curious
how they compare.
I'm half finished with a parafeed 811-10 design. Have only 1 1/4 watt available without distortion so far. The 1 1/4 watt sounded big on my Voigt Pipes, so there is hope for low power amps on it.
Happy building!
OK, knowing that the speaker is down 7db at 100 hz and the Fs is 50 hz can anyone figure out the Qts and the Vas of the driver?
