I think I'll stick to the stock transformer, since the heaters need AC, I think I will add one of the CMC filters as Doc did in the new issue of VALVE. I might use the high voltage output as a charger for the batteries. olen.
You could use 8 D-cells, or a pair of those 6-v lantern batteries. The heaters draw 0.3A; an alkaline D-cell runs around 15A-h according to Duracell. That will get you 50 hours. The 9-v are speced at 580mAh, or 39 hours at 15mA - about the same.Incidentally, you can "stack" 9-v batteries if you lay them flat, so you won't need huge numbers of connectors...
