Hmmm. So it looks like buying a tool for tightening them was not a good idea after all.

Hehe, maybe, or maybe I just need to stop working out. Now, I'm pretty well convinced it was the overheating. Great thing is that my RCA source is right across the street from the ol' vaquita negra. We'll see if this does the trick.
You always looking for a reason to go to Vaquita Negra!

one of the first things you learn working on cars is overtightening is more common than undertightening and causes just as many, if not more, problems. Getting something nice and snug and then backing off just a scosh is usually just right, although in cars, etc. nowadays they give torque msmts for almost everything. Backing off a little does go against all our instincts, tho...
Thanks for the tip, I swapped in the two new output RCA pairs and paid attention to getting them snug but not wrench-to-wrench tight.
Vaquita Negra? Is that the little black cowgirl?
...is a deli here in Toluca, Mexico that serves good chesses, chorizos, jamon serrano etc., and as xcortes aptly pointed out, I'm always looking for an excuse to buy more stuff there.
