You don't need to. You can, though. And you could also call Eileen and buy a headphone connector that disconnects the speakers when a headphone plug is connected. Which reminds me I havent ordered mine!

I guess I'm a little confused. You say you don't have to, but there is some contraption that actually does disconnect the speakers when you plug the phones in. This to me to lead me to believe that there is some reason or "benefit" from doing so. If so, what is the benefit?
Cheers!
One benefit is that you do not have to unplug the speakers when using your headphones.
I actually use the headphone out for my subwoofer, while running my Omega 5 single driver speaker of the SEX amp.
Now I'm really confused. Xcortes wrote that you don't have to, and from your post it sounds like a necessity?
You don't need to disconnect the speakers when listening to headphones or viceversa. You can disconnect the speakers so that you don't disturb others when using headphones. If you want to do that without actually disconnecting the speakers you can order a headphone plug that does that for you. I hope it's clear now!
Gottcha.
