iirc, I think it is just placing the last filter cap on the chassis instead of in the separate supply box. Grainger's checked in during vacation already, maybe he will again.
Yes, that's it. The idea is just to keep the loop small from B+ through the circuit to ground and back through the last PSU capacitor. If you are doing a single power supply, then only one cap is needed; dual mono poser supplies would of course need two caps.
What Paul calls Dual Mono Poser Supplies are what I have referred to as PDMPS.
Tom is just looking at a mono supply. I added two 47uF Solens to my audio chassis since I had already put all three 220uF caps in my outboard PS box.
So, Tom, the answer is one. Either a low ESR additional cap or the last of the three black caps that I know you are replacing with a really nice Mundorf.
Remember, YOU are the only one who needs to be happy with the sound of your system

There Is Only One (Grainger Morrison, it seems)
Thanks Matts, Paul & Grainger. Just to be sure I've got it right, I now intend to keep all three 220 uF caps in the power supply chassis, the third (innermost) of which is a nice Mundorf "Power Tank", and then I'll place an "additional" cap in the audio chassis, 47 uF for that one, in parallel with the Mundorf "Power Tank". Grainger, as you might expect, I have no idea what ESR means. I hope that ignorance doesn't mess me up.
Again, my current less-than-confident plan is to keep all three 220 uF caps, the innermost ("last"?) seriously upgraded, in the power supply chassis, and add a 47 uF cap in parallel with that last cap in the audio chassis. If this is misguided or somehow wrong, please inform me ASAP. Thanks again for this design help.
One correction: the "Power Tank" 220 uF cap is a Black Gate WK, not a Mundorf. I might also mention that the 220 uF stock cap that goes to terminals 14 and 15, closest to the "Power Tank" (which itself goes to Terminals 11 and 12), has been replaced by a JJ 200 uF cap. Probably overkill, but I had the JJ on hand and nowhere else to use it. Should I also mention that I have a Hammond 155J choke going to Terminals 12 and 15? More than anyone wanted to know, probably, but there it all is.
I'm not sure you need a 4th filter cap, but if it works better for you, go ahead. You could put also put the 3rd filter cap on the chassis. I built mine with psu in stock location, except I didn't use the stock plug, I installed 2 chokes in the top(one where the stock power module would be, other next to it), and I bypassed the last psu cap with a small Auricap I had, which made a nice difference. Since I c4s in from start, I connected 11/12 directly to that board and didn't use the shielded cable up and back for B+. Noise is inaudible.
