Hi guys
I'm wondering how easy it is to get a 110V Foreplay to work in Australia at 240V. I've got a 240V SEX thats not being used at the moment and was wondering if I buy an already made up Foreplay from the States what would be involved in getting the Foreplay playable, would it only involve swapping a part or two from the SEX to the Foreplay, or would I need to order more bits from Bottlehead. I've got no electronics knowledge and wouldnt feel confident attempting anything that deviated too far from the instruction manual. cheers
B.
Normally the recommended approach is to get a step-down transformer, 240v in and 120v out. They are widely available in most places, and provide a bit of line-noise isolation as well as the correct voltage. It is often possible to power an entire system from one such transformer, if you have many 120-v devices. Bottlehead does have a special 240v version of the Foreplay III / SEX amp transformer made, but the production run is small so it's not cheap, and the shipping is not cheap either - that's why locally-produced step down transformers are more practical.
It only requires a different power transformer. This isn't a super fun change to do, so it's best to order a 240v kit or have a 240v preamp built b Bottlehead.
Thanks for that.
One other question, could a 110V transformer from a Foreplay swap into a SEX and vice verso, or are they different.
Many thanks
B
They are the same transformer, and the difficulty of actually replacing them in both kits is about equal.
