On my Foreplay III, 2 clicks was just a little low, 3 clicks was just a little too much. So I replaced the stock 33K resistors with the supplied 80.6K for a -6db pad. My question is what value would I need for -3db pad, I think that would just right, not to hard and not to soft.
If I read you right, you should now have 3 clicks a little low, and 5 clicks a little too much, so 4 clicks would be about right. You asked for a 3dB reduction instead of 6dB, which would make the 3-click point about right (and leave 7 louder positions available). I don't understand why you'd want that, but something in the range of 50 to 55K would do the job.
If it were my system, I'd install the 360K so that 8 clicks would be about right, leaving two more clicks (6dB) for when I need to kick it, and a wide range below that for background or late-night listening.
