a Panasonic 1/4 track playback head, and a Tascam 1/2 track playback head into my headstack.I told John French I wanted some decent heads to work with vacuum tube playback electronics, without breaking the bank.....and that's what I got. They turned the job around in a few weeks, and delivered an optically aligned, ready-to-bolt-on headstack that sounds superb!
Call them up and tell them Mike Paschetto sent you!

That's weird. I just emailed John French about the heads before I saw your post. I had asked you about the heads you had installed on your 1500 a few months ago so,. i did mention your name. I asked him for the spec.s on the new and stock heads and I'm sure he'd have those. Do those heads seem to have the same output? Sounds like your pretty happy with them. Doc and Paul are looking into using some custom? Flux Magnetics head as I recall from a post after Dan returned from his amp building class. Sounds $$$ though. Well, as soon as I find out anything concrete, I'll post the info here. It seems like, if we're designing a dedicated playback amp, the impedance should at least be matched right from the start rather than adding load resistors to load resistors right? I guess I'm coming from a vinyl guys perspective, but , they're both magnetically induce voltage i figure.

It's most likely that the heads will be happy running into a 100K or higher load. We put a 250K trimpot on the input grid so we can tweak it while watching the high frequency response. Output level hasn't been an issue with the stock heads. I think the type of heads that might create an issue are low impedance heads like those on the ATR 100.

seem to have roughly the same output as the stock heads.I haven't experimented with load resistors or impedance matching transformers....yet!
