Hi,Has anyone tried building the PQ Siganture? I'm thinking of upgrading my Kit1 Signature to the PQ Signature. My main question is whether those 2 double C-core AudioNote output trans are worth the US$1000, which to me at least is huge money for a pair of output trans.
Your comments are much appreciated.

I would be interrested too to know if TRANS300 are worth the price !
I think it is not absolutely necessary to change the chassis.
I have recent Trans-189 (8/16 Ohms) that seem to have the same
size as Trans-300. Mounting them was not easy but possible.

Not sure if this will help, but I own the P3 Silver which to my untrained eye looks pretty similar to the Kit 1. (tube complement, drivers, etc). I used to have the TRANS-150 transformers as that was what came with the P3 at the time it was purchased back in the late 90's I upgraded to the TRANS-300 transformers and the difference was very dramatic. At first things were rather forward and a bit bright. Soon thereafter though I just noticed the speed of music increased by ten fold. The midrange resolution was the biggest thing I noticed though. Everything was more defined and really changed the overall sound of the amp. Before music was always a bit distant. Very real but almost detached. Certainly it wasn't as bad ad other PP systems I have heard let alone SS. But with the new transformers the music is much more immediate and live. It was almost like gaining db of efficiency on my speakers. If you want increased speed and resolution (especially in the midrange) go for the PQ edition.
I just thought I would interject here - The trans 189 is the smallest of the output transformers and will fit on a kit1 chassis no problem but would require some drilling. The trans 152 is the normal size for the kit1 and the trans 300 double C Core will not fit on the kit1 chassis. We had to increase the width of the chassis by 35mm in order to squeeze these monsters on. If you check out the PQ Signature web pages you can see some pics of the trans 300 in comparison to the trans 152
The new PQ chassis also has some added tweaks with 8 speaker posts now that are 19mm apart and directly over top of each other - no longer the triangle config. We also have two sets of RCA holes etc..

In short, YES, those transformers are worth it. The PQ sounds incredible - powerful and smooth beyond description.Keep in mind that the Trans 300s won't fit on a standard chassis, so you'd have to upgrade that as well.

Hi KamigoYes - me too - very interested in your experiences - how do you find your kit1 PQ signature??

Hi Kamigo,Have U upgraded your Kit1 to the PQ yet? Does its power go up, ie isit now 10 or 15W ouput?
Can you describe the sonic improvement in greater detail.
What else other than the chassis needs to be changed? Any caps, resistors, PCB boards? How about the main transformer?

I was busy building speakers!Just to be clear, I don't own the PQ, but a friend does and I've heard the before and after. With the TRANS 300s there's just more of everything...better detail, more PRaT, bigger soundstage, and more "umpf", for want of a better term. If it were up to me I'd call the Kit 1 V. 2.0, because the TRANS300s make such a big difference all around. Whether they make more power I don't know, but I would suspect so - at least a little more anyway.
Someday, when I find a way to camouflage the monsters from my wife, I'll upgrade to the T300s for my Kit 2.
