Briefly, I have an opportunity to get a Kit 4 speaker. I have to make the call on those vs. factory AN/E Spe HEs and rather soon.
The one negative of the Alnico is it's speced 3dB (actually 4?) less sensitive. That is significant when using 45s/2A3s.
My fave amps now are 2A3 monos that put out 4W. I don't listen too loudly. I would really love some feedback from somebody who has owned the Kit 4 (or factory Alnico AN/Es) and used them with <5W amps - thanks much in advance!
Did you choose the kit 04 or the AN E HE ?My kit 04 should be finished and leave AN UK this week I think.
This time I will get the chance to make a side by side comparsion with those and the kit 03(black gate, hemp) that I have now.Should be interesting.

I have another Kit 3 on the way.
What are your Kit 3 cabs?
I bought them from the AN kits distributor here in Norway, and I believe they got them from AN UK.
Congrats on kit 3!
details about the 2A3 amp? I was interested in what you had to say about the WE91 monos; you have now found a 2A3-based amp you prefer? It would be appreciated if you could share a little of the design/model details and what you like about it. Feel free to PM or share on one of the other forums.
Kind regards

I wasn't able to PM you - you can mail me at paul dot folbrecht at veribox dot net.
I was running Wright 2A3 monos for awhile; I have them and a Korneff 45 and a First Watt F3. They are all very good on the AN/Es but the F3 might be the best.
I believe Peter Q could give you a pretty clear answer to that question.
IMO sensitivity numbers doesn't tell it all as to how easy the speakers might be to drive.I've owned Klipschhorns rated at 104dB but the AN kit 03 and 04 seems easier to drive properly with a 300B SET,but they can't play as loud as the KHorn with the same amp.
As for alnico magnet I believe it is a better "engine" ,easier to drive, but it probably can't play excactly as loud as the ceramic magnet HE version. Hopefully Peter Q or someone else jump in an arrests me if I'm wrong :-)
I don't know how usable the theory for dB levels and power are,but with 98 dB sensitivity and 4 watt you should be able to reach levels around 104dB,and with 94db efficiency around 100dB with the same amp.
BTW,I've ordered a pair of kit 04 ;-)
Good luck and please keep us posted about your decision!
Best,
Rune
