I'd really like to know how this works out Russell, I was thinking of new tubes for my k4, and wondered about alternates.

Hi Beth,Thanks for your interest in my Kit 4.
I have just completed a re-build of my kit for and was looking for a set of nice NOS 6V6GT's to finish the project.
Unfortunately good NOS 6V6's are becoming more and more expensive so I started to look at cheaper alternatives! The 6F6G's are slightly different in characteristics to the 6V6 but they sound great in the Kit 4. Extended High and Low frequency and very musical. They only lack the rich detail of a Kit 1 with 300B but I'm very happy with the results.
2 things to watch
1. 6F6G's draw 750mA heater current vs. 450ma for a 6V6.
Multiply the difference by 4 and that’s an extra 1 amp!
2. The 6F6G's are a lot taller than a 6V6 and you won’t be able to fit the lid on the box!
Hi Russell.Did you have to do much circuit upgrading for the extra current draw for the heaters, or did the K4 stock circuit cope okay?
I would like to give some alternate tubes a tryout, if the mods are minimal, as I really love the way my K4 as it is!
I've considered putting some JJ-Tesla-6v6's in there, and will probably try them out soon.
Any info on how your tube transplant went is appreciated.
Kindest regards,
hi,I am interested to change the 6V6B for 6F6G Bbut you dont tell if it needs to change the resistors or others§ can I directly substitute the 6F6G to 6V6 without any change on the wiring schema!
