Looks like a nice job on the unit, wondering about building it, how it sounds, speakers people are using, dislikes, likes, etc. All of it. Might make a great pp amp. Thanks.

I have had long exposure to it and it is one of my favorite amps period. No commercial PP and few SETs (ncluding AN's) I have come across better it. Excluding pure DIY efforts, it is the single best value in audio today. Jump in! You won't be disapointed.

I've had my k4 for many years, originally built with black gates, silver solder and a few silver cables.
A friend built a 300b S/E kit1, run with some Rogers loudspeakers, and also later with some Quad Electrostatics, and we both commented that the k4 was as good, the k4 is very bright without harshness.
I run mine with Mission 731 le's, bi wired, with the tweeters driven from the 8 ohm outputs, and the woofers from the 4ohm outputs.
I've had mine for about 12 years, and every time I listen to it, it makes me smile! Only other Amplifier that has made the same impact on first listen was when I auditioned Ongaku monoblocks, wow, they were so very nice!

  Correction to my last post after re-reading it and reminiscing!
  The stunning sound came from an Ongaku int (of course) and also the monoblocks I heard on the day at Spears' Serious Kit in Manchester, UK were Quests!

Hi Dr.
I'm not sure if I'm entitled to the opinion on Kit 4 as I'm only using original motherboard (with AN components) with diferent transformers and variuos PSu's.(I bought the thing form E-pay for a few bucks).It is really good sounding unit and fun to play with if you'd like to experiment with different tubes.It's well above of most vintage stuff I was listening to (dyna st 35, st 70, fisher 500c, 100X )I'd assume that with original AN OPT's the results would be even better, also it is rare that this unit appears on the second hand sale wchich shows that people tend to keep it.I saw on add when the guy tweaked it to the max and said it was as good as anything out there.One of this days when I'd have some spare cash I'd bug Brian to sell me just OPTS and box with hardware to make it "presentable".Good luck. I've never heard one, but I know that the K4 was Brian's first kit, and look what happened to him!
