Were Snell the ones that told you to buy new drivers? That's why I bought new drivers for my EII's, a few years ago.Kind of a tough choice. You can either re-foam the drivers you already have, have Snell send you new (different) drivers and a new choke or whatever, or maybe AN can sell you a pair of their drivers/crossover parts. My take on it is, the foam surrounds go bad. It's inevitable. If I were you, I'd spend fifty or sixty bucks and have the surrounds replaced by someone like Layne Audio or Miller Sound. My understanding is, the spider has more impact on the sound than the foam. That would seem to me to be closer to your original speaker than getting either a new, different driver from Snell or possibly a driver with a rubber surround from AN. You could at least give it a whirl. My K's have been re-foamed, but they were like that when I bought them and so I can't comment on before/after differences.

Follow Ups:
Layne Audio doesn't seem to be in business any longer. Phone disconnected.
Actually its 'Millersound Labs' (sorry). 1422 Taylor Rd., Lansdale, PA, 215-412-7700. The owner's name is actually Bill Legall. Recommended by Joseph Audio among others. Tell him David from Providence recommended him - he did some SEAS drivers for my JII's a few months ago. It was about $50.

Good Advice. I just checked Layne Audio's website about refoaming. $45! per pair vs. $300/pair from Snell.Any advice on what to use for resealing the woofer to the cabinet?

I wouldn't sweat it, Mortite, Blu-tack, whatever. Parts Express sells real 'speaker sealing' stuff.Just a word of warning. Layne did a GREAT job on a pair of Snell drivers for me a few years ago, but it took a really long time for me to get them back - something like five months. I thought I heard something about long delays from them recently, so you might want to check the archives and ask yourself whether you're willing to wait. Bill legrand at Miller Sound did another pair of Snell drivers for me, but they were re-coned due to creases in the paper, so it was kind of a different situation. He also did a great job. Whoever you get to do it, make sure they understand the woofers were custom matched to the crossover. good luck -
