hi alli am getting ready to take the plunge into the world of the kit. i have already started bugging poor brian, i guess thats the first stage.
the first thing i was going to tackle is the speakers. i love the sound of the E's. are the kit2 E's near in sound quality to the store bought? also would any one be willing to send me a set of drawings for the cabinets so i can start to make them at home before my wife figures out what i'm up to.
has any one built one of the new pre amps? i am seriously thinking of the new preamp with a kit2 amp
Follow Ups:
Hi all, thanks every one for thier input, and of course the drawings. Another, probably not so quick, question; materials choice for the cabinets. what have people made thiers out of? and what is your impression?
AN used to make an E using all MDF painted, and if I am thinking of not having a wood finish if this could be a good way to save a few bucks over buying the premade pieces. it is 1/2 way to me being able to buy a kit1 or 2 amp

I believe that MDF was only used as the wrap with Birch used as the front and back panels as mine are. The lower model to this was a chipboard cabinet.MDF is a highly damped material which is not good for this speaker design.

I have the Kit 02s. While I can't say how they sound to store bought, I can say that they are awesome speakers and at about 1/3 the price of retail, are one hell of a bargain. As for the drawings, I think the idea is that you pay for those along with the drivers and crossovers. I bought the finished cabinets at any rate as I can't cut a straight line.

XO schematics and some more information can be found on www.audionote.co.uk
http://www.audionote.co.uk/resources/spkr_an-e-d.pdfI have seen the drawings earlier, but cannot find them right now.

Hi, Re the drawings on the German link. They are not correct, you should not attempt to make the cabs till you have the drawings that are included with the kit.

This info raises the intriguing possibility of upgrading the crossover. There don't seem to be any 4.2 uf foil types out there, and no BGs fit the bill. I wonder how lower end Mundorfs would sound. It'd be fun to make an external xover.

If somebody made an external cross-over and placed it between Pre-Amp and amps for bi-amping, do you think that would be a...1) good idea
2) bad idea
3) no difference to just bi-amping the internal cross-over.
